I frequently take these trains as part of my commute. A part from the accessible toilet, new buttons, sounders and minor livery change is there much of note that is of interest?

I'm interested in the new destination screens mentioned, praying they aren't the hard too see ones.

I've decided to change the title
It will be interesting to know if Chiltern are thinking of getting new stock considering the amount of short formations they have and how old their current stock is. Currently, 165021 has been out of service for a few months however has been moved recently, it is unlikely if it will ever run again.
My guess to if they ever get new stock is that they will get units like the class 195, or if they get stock from another company, my guess is that they might get units from TFW such as 158s or 175s

Same old story. People think the TOCs just decide if a vehicle runs again or not - they don't. Angel, as vehicle owners, will be expecting it back in operational condition at the end of the lease. It's up to Chiltern to fix it.

I think 195s or a 195 equivalent is certainly a possibility. there are only so many 170s to go around! :D.
the 158s are a possibility but if they went with them they'd need something else, TfW only has 24 158s while chiltern has 39 165s alone, not even including the 28 168s.
also i've only noticed now that chiltern have had the franchise since 1996 and haven't really made any major disposals in their fleet, bar the 2 bubble cars and the 67s.

The 158s are unlikely as they are now approaching the 30 year mark so they will be retired soon anyway.
I'm hoping we could see some bimode ec250s for Chiltern mainline, maybe some flirts or aventras or even desiros for more frequently stopping services.

Chiltern has 68033 on hire? What's that working as I haven't seen it anywhere on the Chiltern line...

Only 68008-68015 can work push pull with the Chiltern DVTs so no chance of the other ones working (unless they go top and tail like 68002 and 68017 did in February 2017).

Why do they need to have made disposals? The 165s were new in 1990/1991 as part of a total route modernisation. No reason to change them in the current franchise.

My guess to if they ever get new stock is that they will get units like the class 195, or if they get stock from another company, my guess is that they might get units from TFW such as 158s or 175s

Probably not - most people suggest some form of electric unit (with electrification) or hybrid to replace the existing Chiltern fleet rather than straight diesels. Not sure what a 158 or 175 offers over the existing fleet for what are predominately commuter services.

I'm sure they could make use of mk4s couldnt they? And 230s for the Risborough Aylesbury branch would free a 165 in the short term.

What's up with 165021?

With Chiltern's franchise due to expire in December 2021, they're in pretty much the same position as TPE were when it came to the 170/3s, namely a less attractive prospect for a ROSCO than a franchise with a longer term contract.

dare I say it, but those 180's all need a home don't they?

the line speed is only 100mph so they are not getting thrashed. 5 car would also be an extra bit of capacity over the present 4 car formations of clubmans/turbostars.
presumably they would take on a "regional express" type role, and the 168's/170's maybe extended but put on more "metropolitan" stopper duties.

Class 82s:

82301: Chiltern Mainline
82302: Chiltern Mainline
82303: Chiltern Mainline
82304: Chiltern Mainline
82305: Chiltern Mainline
82309: Chiltern Mainline
Class 82? I didn't know they had any old electric locos.o_O:lol:

I know it is pedantry but a DVT is not a class 82. It is just a hauled (or propelled!) coach that happens to have a cab at one end. The mk4 DVTs are completely different vehicles but are numbered in the 82xxx series as well. I do not see how they can be the same 'class'.

Not a bad idea but the hull trains 180s are going to EMR and the grand Central 180s are probably going to stay there for quite a long time, I'm assuming they'll eventually replace them with 80x units.

Not just me then! If they are class anything, it’s NZA.

Just a thought, send the soon to be released 185s to go to Chiltern.

Reform them into 4 car units, convert the 1st class area to Standard seats. You've got roughly 38 sets (so maybe 30 odd can be in service and the others as spares).

I know I'm probably thinking in la-la land but it's a good idea and makes sense. They can do 100mph so should be ok with the Chilterns!

What's the point in bimode when not a single place on the Chiltern Mainline is electrified?

There's no way in the next 30/40 years that some form of electrification won't be introduced, even if it's just wires for the last few miles into Marylebone and Moor St/Snow Hill.
