Desiro Update:
.
444s:
444018 (unit 45) was released from Eastleigh 11-11-19... that concludes the overdue 444 interior refurbishment work.
.
450s:
450563 (unit 101) in 31-10-19, out 11-11-19
450553 (unit 102) in 2-11-19, out 9-11-19 (overtaking unit 101)
450562 (unit 103) in 9-11-19, out 13-11-19
450561 (unit 104) in 11-11-19, on hand
450557 (unit 105) in 13-11-19, on hand
.
These former HC units are regaining their original identities on completion. Out of those done, I have only seen 450553 and that is now numbered 450053.
450543 which was refurbished during 6-19, became 450043 at Northam a few days ago.
At the current rate of progress the last unit is expected to go to Eastleigh on the 9th December.
.
The next 444 for painting at Bournemouth is 444015 which went there 13-11-19.
.
Hope that helps.

Thanks once again. Unusual that 450053 and 563 took longer than normal though...

Vinyl - you can see the joins clearly. No one in their right minds would actually paint such a complex livery.

Seems too slow what swr are doing what are the refurbished trains in service
45 of the 45 444 have interior mods complete.
Just over 100 of the 127 450s have interior mods complete.
Doing the exterior repaints on the Desiros was only ever planned to be done after the interior work, hence it only starting now on the 444s, in fact based on previous announcements the 450 repaints could be considered to have started early.

If you were to read back through the thread, you’d find the 444/450 production line was slowed down from May onwards, when there weren’t any 442s ready for use.

I'm told that none of them have been renumbered on the system as yet and that set numbers 450043 and 450053 don't exist.

That's Correct. Units have had their numbers changed externally but they still show on systems as 4505xx. The whole batch are being done in one go.
Should be in the next couple of days.

The staff at northam depot clearly said the work was all paint except the cabs which were vinyl
Are you sure they didn't say it the other way round? Cabs painted and rest is vinyl? You can see the joins between the vinyl sheets on the bodysides.

So they painted vertical join effects on the livery to simulate vinyl then...

The easiest way to tell whether something is painted or vinyled is not ask someone, but look at it close up. It's very easy to tell the difference!

Well one thing that is true is the blank livery is still vinyl

the only reason SWR got rid of the stripes was to save cost. Painting had nothing to do with it

You can see in this video that it is vinyl

Oh for God's sake. It's paint. The plain livery is painted. End of. But if you want to believe otherwise be my guest.

Keep digging.

The 159s coming out of Brush are now painted. The 444s and 450s are being done at Bournemouth because they have a paint booth there: if it was vinyl it could be done at Northam.

Though the 158s home has never been northam

Wheres the evidence. I admit I was wrong about the stripes as i must have mis heard what was said on the day. However several workers at northam and eastleigh who will be doing the work did also confirm that the it is The plain work is vinyl. If their is anything iam right about its this.

where is the proof of your claim? Dont presume just because its a plain livery its paint.

The evidence is on the side of the trains. Incidentally the Desiro repaints are being done at Bournemouth, not Northam or Eastleigh.

Apparently 444 006 has had a fatality and needs body work repairs at the front of DMC1 end. Not expected to enter service until the end of November beginning of December.

For the record, the incident occurred prior to the repainting and the ETA is correct.
