Plusbus with break of journey

I’m planning a Derby-Stalybridge day return tomorrow, change at Sheffield and Manchester Piccadilly, with two CDR tickets spilt at Stockport to save a significant portion of the normal fare. I’m expecting to spend some time in Sheffield en route - break of journey - and wonder whether a ticket office will issue Plusbus for Sheffield (online only seems to offer destinations) - or am I wasting my breath if I ask?

Appreciate any guidance from the wise ones of this forum.

Andy

My understanding is that officially PlusBus tickets can only be issued for the origin and/or destination shown on the ticket(s). Having said that, I have been issued with PlusBus tickets for intermediate stations. No harm in asking...

If you split at Sheffield there will be no problem.

Thanks for the advice lightbulb. I guess I’ll ask then - splitting at Sheffield does not save as much on the train journey as splitting at Stockport.

I can vouch for the Plusbus for intermediate stations as I’ve got one for tomorrow, the only thing that the staff say is they cannot issue a Plusbus without you first buying a rail ticket so seeing as you’ve already brought your rail tickets I doubt you have issues getting a Plusbus add on.

Don’t try asking for a PlusBus ticket at the infamous Sheffield Station booking office..!

I would try buying it somewhere other than Sheffield though - incase you're unaware, Sheffield ticket office are rubbish at doing anything other than singles and day returns. Throw anything vaguely complicated at them and they'll tell you it's not possible.

EDIT: Just beaten to it by Llandudno.

Haha... A few weeks ago I tried to buy a GM Rail Ranger at Sheffield station: “No,” says Bert, “We can’t sell Manchester travelcards here. Buy it when you get to Manchester.” So off I scuttle to check brfares etc, and after convincing myself it’s a national rail product I try again but get another Bert who also says no. More tapping on the iPad on my behalf finally sees me back at the desk for a third attempt and dealing with Bert number three (thank goodness there were several working), who says “ah yes, I can sell you that but not many of the others realise its available here.” Sigh!

I've also been unable to buy Cheshire Day Rangers as, and I was genuinely unaware of this, Sheffield is not in Cheshire...

Northern advance tickets which, Meadowhall found in twenty seconds, Sheffield told me didn't exist.

And please don't ask them to look again because they'll instantly turn against you, and eventually walk off.

I actually have purcahsed a PlusBus at Sheffield ticket office with an ALR. Only took a few seconds and didn't get any problems, they just asked for the ticket and Railcard.

Yep, tried to buy a TfGM Wayfarer from Sheffield booking office, told me to buy one on the train!

May as well close the ticket office and replace with TVM.

No such issues at Chesterfield station, quite happy to issue a TfGM Wayfarer!

You should try buying a Northern Family and Friends Rover there. The woman looked at the white slip as if was from another planet. (Also didn’t seem to think a zip card was sufficient proof of my age )
