Yes, but historically it is known as BNS, especially to all the locals

Historically I know it as ZFD but that doesn't mean anything to anyone. Best to keep one code per station.

Interesting that the 172 retains the compatibility with Sprinters that the 170 has - the 172 going through the gears up to say 4th gear while pulling away while the 153 is still in "1st" must be an interesting combination of sounds!

Being on board one, you can definitely feel them fighting each other!!!

It's bad enough having them on empty workings. It's just horrible having that combo on stopping trains.

Seems odd there pairing 172 153 again
This was tried on the stourbridge line when the 172s were brand new.
There was a regular working on the stourbridge dorridge every day ,but after just a short few weeks it was found no good , they both have differnt braking and acelerating gear charitics and were always fighting each other.
On wet rails the 153s brakes would apply well before the 172 and thus cause wheel flats, very quickly I remember two vivid trips on leaving stourbridge and having very bad wheel flats by time weg got to dorridge so much so the 153 was taken off and left there, another trip and the 153 was taken off at snow hill and returned back to tysley
The duo lasted about 2 weeks at most before being abandoned and since then uptill nowits never been seen again.
There should some photos on here I took back then , and I have video somewhere of 172 153 combo of the time back then too.
The 153 floor is also about 6 inchs higher than 172
So none will ever couple together using front ends.
Might work in the dry, but wet rail no way, seen it happen before and didn't work well.
.I'm sure there was also a 150 and 172 trial too back then too.

An East Mids 153 + Green 153 and a 170 paired in the siding just outside Moor St @ 10-55 believe this should have been the 11-09 Dorridge - Kiddy cancelled from Dorridge to Moor St due to sheep on the line earlier and 2 x GA 170s on Tyseley

I believe the GA 170s are just being held their as the line to South Wales is closed due to flooding, I don't believe WMR had any intension of using extra 170's.

The GA 170s are at Tyseley to have work done and then continue on TFW and nothing to do with flooding. This is being discussed in the TFW 170 thread

The well-used 1609 Dorridge - Kidderminster is now always 2x153+2x172. It runs late most days by a few minutes as they seem to be trying to help prevent the train from self-destructing. It's hard to predict which way round they will run and the poor old 153's sound like they're being thraped.

Regardless, they give plenty more seating for now when they work and the windows are kept open to help with the smell.

There’s a triple 153 formation on the 1449 to Hereford today. Didn’t see which but two WMR and one EMR units.

it’s to release a 3 car 170 for the 15:50 which is better suited for that service
Fair enough, I can understand it might be justified, but still pretty crap if you were a regular on the service that got downgraded from a 170 to the triple dogbox.
