Going by the size of that portion it's about time another one was.
The difference in those is quite something! In the case of the smaller one, were any of the onboard team quite, well, portly?

No complaints with the onboard team. Even stood on the platform at the doors in the pouring rain to welcome 1st class passengers aboard the train.

They were quite good on that service, I was only on from Newcastle to Edinburgh and actually was given three!

Had the beef and Yorkshire pudding on today's 1300 EDB-KGX. It was pretty poor, the gravy was nice and the Yorkie was passable but the beef was tasteless, overcooked and one of the larger pieces consisted entirely of gristle.
The red wine is OK, the date and ginger slice is tasty and the crew are lovely so that's all good. Good first impression of the Azuma as well, rides much better than mk3s and 4s.

No! I did find a tiny sliver of onion but that was it other than the potatoes. Some carrots through the stew would have been nice.
I thought I saw mushrooms? But I'm inclined to agree generally.

The service has been dung ever since East Coast went. That includes the food.

I was on the train after you, the 1330, and had the same meal. It’s one that looks better in pix than it does on the plate: for me, the stew was cold and the Yorkshire - a hard thing to do for mass catering- did not work at all. Ambitious but fail, sadly.
The cakes and drinks are good just now though, and I had the chicken supreme on the way back which was very good indeed: succulent meat, hardly any bone, no gristle, and the veg with it were an attractive combination and not over cooked etc. That was a success, and not an easy one.

Why is the shop selection so rubbish?
I'd like to be able to buy some Walkers or McCoy's chrisps in place of the sub standard stuff the sell.
Also none of the items on the drinks trolley can be bought in the shop either. This has been the same since Virgin took over.

It's all pre mixed drinks in the shop. You can't buy the stub bottles or spirits at all.

I think last time this came up, the consensus was that the paid and free items are different to avoid risk of theft/fraud.
I don't think it's a matter of policy that you can't get the things on the trolley from the counter. It's more that they aren't holding a massive amount of stock of anything, and some of the staff send the whole stock out on the trolley. On the whole I'd say this happens less often since Virgin went (or possibly just before that when they hit rock bottom with First Class catering and realised they needed to do something about the on-board service)

I've been told by many of the stewards (soon as VTEC took over) that it was. East Coast never had an issue selling you what was on the FC trolly.

Oh right, sorry, I was thinking of the standard trolley. That overrated hop on board beer is available in First and the buffet isn't it?
I can kind of see the logic in not mixing the two - it's a lot easier to get away with selling "free" stock and steal the cash than it is to steal the stock. On the other hand I think I'd be inclined to use cameras or more rigorous stock-checks in First, rather than having to carry more lines in a limited space and not having an entire class of drink available to half the train.
Normally an Azuma from Hull. If you don't ask for toast (+marmalade or whatever) with your breakfast order then you never get asked again but there is toast on the cooked breakfast plate. No sign of any fruit. If toast is asked for it's brought straight from the kitchen at the same time as the breakfast.
This morning a 225 from Doncaster as normal train cancelled. Served breakfast without any toast on the plate but then asked after I had finished the cooked brekkie if I wanted any toast and marmalade etc. Served to me from the "toast trolley". Fruit seen on bottom of trolley as it carried on further but never heard anybody asked if they wanted any.

I've had a number from LNER and none have been like that.
Anyone asked for seconds on LNER ?
