I will miss many aspects of the Virgin Trains franchise. Their website and apps have always been the best in the UK. They have made buying tickets much easier and much more convenient. I hope First Transitalia can keep on innovating in this area.

I won't miss the more jarring elements of the brand. I'm thinking here of the 'toilet door locked' annoucement. I liked it the first few times that I heard it...but less so by the 1000th time!

Hopefully First Transitalia can find an happy medium.

I'm certainly going to miss the toilet announcement. I genuinely laughed out loud in the toilet when I first heard it (hope no one outside waiting heard)!

I'm easy to amuse like that.

On Monday 9 December a special VIP launch train (a non-passenger service) for the new franchise will depart Euston clad in the new livery at 1033, bound for Glasgow calling at:

  • Euston (1033)
  • Coventry (1134)
  • Birmingham International (1149)
  • Crewe (1313)
  • Preston (1415)
  • Carlisle (1536)
  • Motherwell (1652)
  • Glasgow Central (1727)
It's not in RTT yet though by the looks of it, another will be in normal service on the Liverpool/Manchester routes

not a Virgin balloon.jpg I mentioned up thread that LNER had completely replaced the rural scene on toilet walls to remove the Virgin balloon.

By contrast, with West Coast Virgin brand removal, a new balloon vinyl has been fixed over the previous one. Spot the difference.

Meanwhile, at Carlisle Station, Virgin Trains image has gone from the big glass logo that was above the entrance and even gone from the small signs around the place. Saw it all just as a fully naked Pendolino rolled through the station.

That's reasonably tasteful - they haven't just stuck insulation tape over everything as is often done.

Brand removal is going well and quickly but maybe that balloon should have been Orange!! :D

All the Virgin logos have disappeared from Wigan North Western but I reckon the red lighting columns across the platform will still be the same colour well into 2020.

The Virgin Train twitter account is also on the verge of shutting down from seeing the last couple of updates. The farewell video made me chuckle, although I wouldn't be surprised if Mr Blobby becomes the Chief Executive of the new TOC!!!

Quite a lot of debranding has happened at Birmingham International so far, however the very large (and relatively new) vinyl/stickers on the concourse glass (similar to Carlisle above but much much bigger) is still there.
Most of the VT logos on walls have been stickered over.

I believe Coventry has been almost entirely debranded (excluding temporary/moveable objects like signposts)

I have "Avanti West Coast" as a saved Twitter search and I have to say very few people are using it. I have realised that "LMS" is very unlikely now.

And Warrington BQ is in generic BR black on white anyway (with Rail Alphabet signage), having been done up roughly around the last (failed) franchise competition.

All signs are pointing to Avanti West Coast are they not? URLs, logos, lack of LMS being seen "in the wild".

I would put serious money on it being Avanti West Coast now - there's been loads of evidence - if it's anything else all credit to FG for keeping it quiet but I'd be very surprised.

We'll find out Monday evening I believe?

I'm currently on 1M08 outside Motherwell, and made a payment from the shop which has shown up as 'WCT CATERING'. Are purchases like these usually from an organisation with the name of the franchise itself or the official franchise holder's name, or the brand the TOC has established?

On Virgin yes, it's been WCT Catering as long as I can remember.

The Virgin Trains franchise is run by West Coast Trains Ltd.

390103 is now also plain!

Thanks. Keep them coming!

I just wonder if 390156 is the first painted into First Trenitalias new livery, will it be hidden away until 09th December for official unveiling as it's due out of Widnes on the 3rd unless the full livery is applied at another depot like Oxley.

Apologies if the details for this event has already been mentioned, but am I right in thinking that there's an event in Birmingham on 25/11/2019 to launch the new brand. Does anyone know whereabouts this is or have any more information on this?

Thanks in advance.

It's Wed 27th November at a Central Birmingham location from 1730 - 1830.
The official train branding will be unveiled on Monday 09 December at Euston.
