Is it definitely for repainting? All the recent heritage diesels were repainted at Crewe Diesel?

Might get new paint jobs whilst they're there, but suspect they're going to Eastleigh for something mechanical as well/instead. New wheels perhaps...

Never thought of that, only going off what I've heard.

They are going to Eastleigh for paint and cab tidy up. Livery is not BR blue.

There's only one place in the UK that can do the wheelsets and that's Lucini. Whilst the wheels are thinnish, there's a turn left in them and with the limited mileage LSL intend to do it's not likely to present an issue near term.

Arlington (Eastleigh) has also been working on some of the paint finishes on the LSL locos too, with two of the green 47s visiting the paintshop recently.

As for liveries for the 86 & 87, I'd certainly rather rate BR Inter-City Mainline on the 87.

Does anyone know if LSL are intending to get a MK3 set and DVT to go with their newly acquired 86 and 87?

The 86 and 87 are currently stabled adjacent to Eastleigh station along with the 47. Apparently points failure at entrance to Arlington will keep them there for a few days.

What for?
I was thinking maybe for use on charters with the 86 and 87 (and the 2 class 90s from GA) to recreate one of the former West Coast sets. It would be good to see a full set back on the WCML.

I prefer mainline with the warp round yellow cabs over IC which was just too dark on these locos.

So 86101 into Mainline livery and 87002 into Intercity Swift livery! Hopefully, then get 86401 into NSE livery.
