Class 76's were long gone by 1984 so that doesn't tally with your original post.
maybe there was no 76 involved I just can not remember I was sure we went from tinsley then over woodhead but I guess it could have been different loco

I would be sure that no railtours went over Woodhead in 1984. While the route may have technically been passable for demolition trains at the time I couldn't imagine any railtour using that route after official closure. Though it would be interesting to know if there was anything after the juice was turned off in 1981.

If you also remember, after going over Woodhead, having one or two Class 40s back over Standedge to York then it would have almost certainly been one of the two 1978 tours.
I was doing plenty of tours around then and had there been another featuring Class 76s and a Class 13, I would have been on it!

There was an article published in the October 2011 edition of Rail Express recalling the final years of railtours over Woodhead which mentions a Merrymaker (remember them ?) THE PENNINE RAMBLER from Mexborough to York. This ran on October 7th 1978, and used 13003 from Rotherwood to Tinsley Yard. As previously mentioned the superb Six Bells Junction webite is your friend and a great source of information. Further details are here www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/70s/781007br.htm The only problem being you may spend too time reminiscing about past adventures, cursing you didn't go on a particular trip or wishing you had a time machine !!
