It's Wed 27th November at a Central Birmingham location from 1730 - 1830.
The official train branding will be unveiled on Monday 09 December at Euston.

You mean they are not taking a newly branded Pendolino along the tram lines into central Birmingham? :E

Oops, realise I initially posted this to the wrong First Trenitalia thread - anyway, here's 221101 in plain white livery.

Shame as 221101 looked quite smart in the silk livery.

I wonder if the ROSCO will now get the rest of the WC Class 221s painted into a neutral livery for First Trenitalia to partially brand and then minimal external work required for the next user of the ex Virgin 221s from December 2022.

Looks less rubbish than a Pendolino in all white, probably because the bodyside is a bit "busier" with other stuff to break up the big area of white e.g. the PIS display.

Apologies if its already been asked, but I assume all names of the 390s will go, such as 390045 Virgin Pride, but what about the ones with no 'Virgin' in the name, like City of Manchester ? 390014 ,and all other ' City; names ? Will we be getting 'City of Rome' etc given the name and home of new TOC ?

I'd say the Virgin names are certain to go, and I'm pretty sure the "City of" names will go too as it's attached to the previous operator. XC's Voyagers lost their names when they transferred from Virgin.

Though despite this the "Voyager" name has remained. It was previously used by BR (InterCity) to describe an enhanced Standard class on XC for long journeys, so is probably not a Virgin trademark.

someone took a pic inside a DRS MK3 last week, it still had a Virgin route map in it!

Also an update on custhelp: EMR are quoting 'Avanti West Coast' again and TFW now mention it too.
... well for the next hour or so ! :)
There's also a blank 'Avanti West Coast' Wikipedia page linking to West Coast Rail, but I suppose anyone could have done that,.

That’s sad. There have been “City of X” nameplates on the WCML at least since the days of the 86s.

That's not to say the new operator won't honour tradition. That said I'd find it a bit silly to rename, for example, the current "City of Manchester" to "City of Liverpool", and vice versa.

That's true, the "Adelante" name has stuck with the 180s despite not being operated by FGW anymore. "Pendolino" in particular is a name most passengers recognise, so I'd expect this to remain also.

Though that, to be fair, is a trademark of the train builder and not the TOC.

I didn't know that that. I thought FGW were the ones who gave them that name. Didn't Grand Central want to call their's "Zephyrs" but the name didn't catch on? To make this more relevant to the topic, if that was anything to go by then the First Trenitalia will have a hard time giving Pendolinos and Voyagers different names.

Pendolino is the general name for tilting trains worldwide, but I thought the Voyager name was just for the product, rather than brand?

Why would they want to change 2 established names? Most people know a Pendolino and it's been a great success, not perfect and Super Voyagers will be leaving within 3 years, they just need a new name or names for there new rolling stock at the end of 2022. Although they don't need a name at all but i'm sure they will have one!!

I wasn't suggesting they would, I was just saying that if they tried to they probably wouldn't be successful.

They’ve covered up the safety information poster signs throughout the train saying “Your Virgin Pendolino” with one saying “Your Pendolino” on this 390 I’m on. This must mean the name Pendolino is staying!

I think Bletchleyite meant that Pendolinos were the manufacturer's name, not Adelante, which I think is a First Group invention.

Pendolino is the trade name for Fiat Ferroviaria's tilting technology (originally ex-BR, and now Alstom), and is not a general term for tilting trains.
Sweden's X2000 is not a Pendolino, for instance, neither are the various Talgo tilting products - nor class 221 Voyagers for that matter.
