Possibly a sign that it’s time is almost up and that it’s being prepared for its scrap move. More likely gonna be going to Newport for disposal. We’re thinking that 203 has gone to one of the Clyde yards for disposal but we don’t know exactly where it went yesterday.

A handful of 508s were scrapped in the past on site by Raxstar at Eastleigh, so it may be going nowhere.

I posted this on another forum and got shot down, but I am sure that the regulations have been tightened up regarding scrap disposal and you can't just hire a team armed with gas axes and pick a suitable spot to chop up anything anymore, new H&S and Environmental regulations means that the site has to be granted a license by the local authority, and this will only happen after an inspection, risk assessment and all the usual beurocratic hoops. With two experienced scrap processing yards in the city the plan seems to be move by rail to the Glasgow Works compound, load to road there and take to one of the yards. The one at King George V Dock has ship loading facilities, so no problems shipping the scrap to a suitable steelworks.

EMR are north of the river, but there is another scrap merchant, J.R. Adam at King George V Dock
EMR have a large site on South Street, there is also a site at Lobnitz Dock in Renfrew which is/was where Campbells of Alexandria take pcvs after they have completed component recovery for final scrapping

So yesterday the unit was delivered to Springburn. The 2 end vehicles are going to the scrap yard by road, the middle vehicle is going by road down south. It was a shame to see virtually no component recovery taking place

203 had left by road for the scrap yard just barely a day after it arrived at Glasgow Works. I’m not sure if the rest will be going to the Works before being sent for disposal as I was expecting them to be all sent down to Newport Docks by rail.

I think the problem with further component recovery is so much is common to similar units, that are also being or have already been stripped, there’ll come a time when there’s little point in adding further to existing stocks. A similar discussion happened regarding the Great Northern 313s.

I hear you SWT. But when the cab has all of the GSMR kit and even a newly fitted horn valve you do wonder if it is worth spending some time stripping some goodies out.

Slightly silly question, but has it be confirmed for sure that all 314s will be removed from public service at the next timetable change? I.e., we are (almost) in the final week of service for them?

ScotRail have confirmed Saturday 14th December will be their last day in service. Their last official diagram should be the 2312 Glasgow Central - Paisley Canal that night. Unclear if ScotRail have a farewell run planned, but there will be no 314s diagrammed in service from Sunday 15th December onwards.

Wow really is the end of an era. The 314s have been really good saviours but now is the right time for them to be retiring. The units have remained basic the majority of their lives and haven’t had the same amount of effort put into upgrading them with the times (like the 318s and 320s). I’m hoping for a farewell tour like the 303s. It would be nice to them on the Argyle Line and North Clyde line one last time.

Literally the first photo I’ve seen of a 314 down South. Can we assume 314212 has been broken up now and fully scrapped?

212 has indeed been fully scrapped. After component recovery was completed at Glasgow Works it went to EMR Kingsbury by road for scrapping.

Loved seeing the 314s in Glasgow.
Sad day when the last ones go.
Hope they now out in style.
Roll out the bagpipes for the final farewell.
Now that would be something

Surely they deserve better than that ! ;)

... besides all available pipers are currently employed in the Hogmanay World theme park in Edinburgh.

Is there a chance that 314215 will be dragged to Glasgow Works soon? It hasn't moved from Yoker CS in ages plus it's becoming a graffiti hotspot now

214 was on the 1549 Newton to GLC and seems not to have got beyond Pollokshields East. Its return to Newton at 1620 has been cancelled.

Just announced here at Glasgow Central that 16:42 to Paisley Canal is cancelled. Coincidentally a humble 314 is sitting at the planned platform 15 idle.. Seems to be 314205 still.

Which I believe has failed in the vacinity of Pollokshields East. Disruption in those routes now as a result, sitting in a very difficult place to recover.

If this poor reliability is anything to go by Scotrail will be delighted to be rid of them, might even end up with an earlier finish for these units.

Scotrail aren't well known for their farewell trips. I don't think they did anything for the 101s or 117s. The last run for the 303s was a one way trip from Bellgrove to Helensburgh quite early on New Year's Eve.

I don’t see why there really needs to be a farewell tour. A decently publicised last run that doesn’t get cancelled at the last minute is good enough for me, with the trains gracefully bowing out doing the job for which they were originally built.

The last normal run of the GN 313s was a low-key affair, and IMO this worked rather better than a crowded tour.
