Is there any way to see these from a legal viewing point? Thinking about making the trip on Saturday and would appreciate any local knowledge!

If you mean Heaton depot, you can see it from the Metro Station bridge at Chillingham Road (I think that's how it is spelt)

A post on Facebook reports 142005 has gone for scrap, with 142044 due to follow.

I'm surprised it's worth their while roading that. Can't be a lot of profit in the move given the price of scrap versus the weight of a pacer and cost of a low-loader.
It has to be disposed of somehow though doesn’t it, as do all the Pacers, no matter how little they are worth for scrap once costs of disposal are taken into account.

Probably worth a surprising amount. It’ll weigh 20+ tonnes with a reasonable amount of aluminium, copper, brass, bronze and decent quality steel. The scrap dealers have bought them so there must be some profit in it.
After 34 years and 3 million odd miles it has paid for itself many times over.

I believe the Leyland national body is all steel so not much Aluminium there. The 144s are at least aluminium panelled.

Yes, but low value vehicles that couldn’t be moved by rail were usually cut on site to save costs.

I suspect that these days there is a lot more specialist recycling of parts that goes on, for environmental as well as sustainability reasons. Though that is just a theory I’ll admit.
