Ditto with me, noticed it's updated the seat section with a red box saying not available after hitting submit.
I thought its because it had sold out already but it still says avaible for me.

Are you trying to book first class? I did and that was unavailable. I've switched class, removed my seat number from the seat column for first class, hit check availability and it says "all seats are available" in green. - This is for the Leeds to KGX route.
Hitting submit, shows the payment page.

Yesterday, stored in the sidings between Wabtec and Doncaster station was HST TSO 42242. Behind it was another HST trailer with vinyls removed and rubbed down (showed traces of GNER livery) Is the rubbed-down one for to be repainted for the farewell train, or for MML, does anyone know?

If it's for the farewell train Wabtec might be cutting it fine for it to be ready in time.

I saw a MK3 carriage rubbed down into the original Virgin Trains livery in Doncaster last Thursday, not sure if this was the same carriage

Booked standard for Leeds - London. Did not check 1st though but standard was available.

No it wasn't - that's been there some time, it's a Mk2 and seems to have been used to trial plug door fitting.

Looking at my photo now though, I now don't think its ex LNER and might even be a GA Mk 2. I'm not sure what it is! (the rubbed down Virgin coach is off camera to the left)

I wish I could afford to go on it, but being young and not having the luxury of a huge disposable income, I'll be lucky if I can even see it.

Not sure which vehicle in the photo you are referring to. The door trials were done on a LHCS Mark 3 (11028 from memory).

I booked the Edinburgh > Leeds section. It covers the important bit of the ECML for me. The HST have been a constant in my life and been my mode of travel for many years and before and after many key life events. it will be sad to see them go.

The only downside, personally, is that there is no call at Darlington and for a very personal reason Sunderland.

They have operated that way in the past.

and the Scotrail ones are booked for that route aren't they?

You might want to brush up on your carriage recognition, both of the carriages you've claimed to potentially be mark 2s are in fact mark 3s: As noted above, the rubbed down Virgin liveried vehicle used for trial sliding door fitting is loco hauled mark 3 FO 11028, while the vehicle half hidden on the right of your shot is indeed an HST mark 3 as you originally suggested, with the LNER vinyls removed to reveal the partially rubbed down National Express East Coast livery beneath.

Booked Leeds to Kings Cross simply because it's closest to me and hence the cheapest option. I've only two sentimental memories neither of which are LNER: (i) Watching the Prototype returning to Old Oak Common from the Regents Canal [Paddington Arm] after a day of trial running on GWR then following it into the Shed for a closer look and (ii) seeing the first four power cars under construction in Crewe in black/yellow. Agree lack of stop at Darlington is disappointing considering it is where our railways began.

Yes, you're right, it's a fair cop! And the ex Virgin coach looked so 'beat - up' and tatty I just assumed it was an E-B-W veteran, and the altered sections of bodyside make it hard to judge the length.

Regarding the rubbed-down coach, my initial impression (and the reason for taking the photo) was that it WAS an LNER Mk3, just started to have doubts when questioned....

If the subject of my initial query is indeed an LNER HST Mk3 (as seems to be confirmed) the puzzle remains; is it intended to be repainted for the Farewell Special, and, if so, will it be done in time? (Presumably, there are others being prepared for the train that aren't visible). Or is if for EMR?

I think the set for the special is being done at Craigentinny?

The increased movement and withdrawal of LNER HST sets has left me a bit confused: HST set EC56 went into Doncaster around November 25th, and had vehicles 42241 and 42244 removed and returned to Craigentinny, leaving it as a 2+7 set. I assumed that this meant it would be the Farewell Tour set, but I've seen more than one report saying that it's going to EMR, but if it's being rubbed down for repaint I also thought I read that the sets moving to EMR wouldn't be getting repainted?

I don't think EC56 is going to EMR. Personally I was disappointed that 42241/244 were removed from the set, as it was the most complete original ECML set, containing six of the eight coaches from 254031 as originally formed.

Which set went south from Craigentinny to EMR last week?

That's interesting, I hadn't realised that.

Previous posts on the "LNER HST Withdrawals" thread on this forum have indeed stated that EC56 isn't one of the sets earmarked to move to EMR after reading back through some of those posts.

I believe it was either set EC52 or EC63 that moved from Craigentinny to Gascoigne Wood with power cars 43274 and 43302 ahead of entering service with EMR.

Wonder which power cars will be on this tour as it won't be 43302 now that it has moved to EMR.
