Over running engineering works causing delays / cancellations of all the first services.

0605 HBD - MCV left about 25 late and stopped at the signal just beyond the end of the platform, and is now showing as cancelled beyond HBD on the screens and national rail enquiries. Not sure what they’re going to do with that. [edit - this is now reversing into the platform making a noise like a ship in fog]

0631 Chester stood at the signal just outside Hebden. [edit - this is now showing as cancelled beyond Hebden]

No announcements, nobody knows what’s going on

So the 605 has disgorged all its passengers and is now running all stops back to Leeds. The conductor announced this on the platform after about 50 people wanting to go west had got on. No announcements (automated, local, twitter) as to when anything will go towards Manchester

Double whammy.

Over running engineering works and a police incident.

What amazes me is why Network rail allowed the train to leave Leeds in the first place. They must have known that engineering works were over running.
Far too much of this behaviour goes on. It's like watching a game of football between two pub teams, they mean well, but it is always a game of kick and hope.

It was at the moment it left Hebden Bridge that the police incident occurred placing a block on traffic from the east, so without crystal balls nobody could have known. As you’re finding this are developing all the time.

As for from Leeds, if it could run, even late, why would you not, surely better than saying to hell with it all.

National Rail says the problembeyond Hebden Bridge is due to a police incident

There are also over running engineering works between Brighouse and Halifax?

Well at least one didn't make it far out of Leeds, the 06:21 Leeds-Southport via Dewsbury promptly sat down before making the signals at Leeds West, blocking some of the lines to the bays meaning that Aire / Wharfe / Harrogate services had to be held whilst it limped back to P6 (150 134 for reference).

Person hit by a train between Rochdale and Smithy Bridge, that's likely to be the police incident.

Tamper reportedly stopped broken down on or in the vicinity of Greetland Junction is the overrunning engineering works.

Tamper ran through the points.

Leeds to Hebden Bridge via Bradford open, Leeds to Hebden via Brighouse open, Halifax to Huddersfield closed with bus replacements.

GC diverted between Wakefield and Bradford.

Thanks.

I had a feeling it was a run-through, but all my sources said was tamper fouling the points.

Northern can’t catch a break lately. Two issues that aren’t their fault, yet people are still raging on social media and copying in Andy Burnham.

Why didn't trains from Leeds reverse at Todmorden? It's a signalled move from the Manchester-bound platform.

Mainly because they do little to win public support and confidence the rest of the time, so there is no goodwill to draw on for events like this.

It was a hard job getting all the trains back straight this morning I'll say that.

As for goodwill and public support if it was Flying Spaghetti Monster rail it would have been the same. Been done to death.
