he is obviously a good player which makes the cheating harder to take. It was all so unnecessary. That is a great score but cant really be celebrated because of past behaviour. His style clearly doesn't favour long form cricket in English conditions
Taking sandpaper gate out of it the fact he really only makes runs in Australia is the difference between him being a good and a great player.

Funny enough that is the discussion down here. A lot of people are conflicted. They're happy for him but not at the same time.
Mark Taylor deliberately didn't try to beat the Don's score, remaining not out, but the vainglorious Warner had no such qualms.... says it all about the guy really. The fact he's a good flat track bully has nothing to do with it. The Donald Trump of cricket!

Day 5 of the Second Test Match was ended, as expected, by the weather, but New Zealand must have enjoyed the cameo performance of Williamson (104 not out) and Taylor (105 not out) and their unbroken stand of 213 runs in the New Zealand 2nd innings score of 241-2 when play ended for the day.

New Zealand take the two match series 1-0.

I notice Sky Sports news this morning was using Denly's Catch as the worst dropped catch in Englands Test History.. I know its bad but, surely there must have been some worse than that ?

Try Mike Gatting's on You Tube. I'm afraid Gatting will only go down in history for this and his wagging his finger in that corrupt Pakistan umpire's face, the latter quite justified in my view. Oh, and Graham Gooch's continual references to Gatting's appetite, not sure whether that includes barmaids!

And for being bowled by the ball of the century!

Very sad to hear. I enjoyed watching him in the Verdict and noticed it wasn’t the same without him over the last couple of weeks during England vs New Zealand series (he was not in it because was having an operation). I was hoping he’d back for the South Africa series but sadly no longer.

Indeed. If Bob Willis and Chris Old had ever both fired at the same time, which sadly never happened, England would have had one of the best bowling attacks in their history. Shouldn't be forgotten that, VERY unusually for a fast bowler, Willis was briefly England captain.

He always seemed so very mournful when giving his views, rarely smiling - or so it seemed to me, anyway!

However, he was an excellent bowler for many years (not just for one match!) and also a very good "Expert Commentator", and he'll be much missed.

I'm quite surprised about that news as, as far as I know, all the wickets at the MCG are of the "drop in" type.

I visited the ground in 2001, and our guide told us that the Rules footballers kept complaining about the different bounce on the outfield and the wicket. As there were far more Rules matches there that cricket matches, the dug up the square and used "drop in" tracks for every match. Granted, I don't know how long it takes to replace a "drop in" wicket, but could they not have changed the wicket rather than abandoning the match?

It's the new version of drop ins used this year.

Apparently the pitch was over watered and the ball was leaving divots and the ball was flying off the surface. The concern was when those divots dried out.

This is how they get put in. The difference is the concrete pads are gone.

There is a big square of about 8 pitches and they prepare 1 for a game.

This time last year, if you'd gone into Ladbroke's (say) and asked for odds on Ben Stokes being crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2019 you'd probably have been offered better than the 500-1 that Rod Marsh and co. got on the Headingley Ashes test of 1981. What a redemption!

The day night test in Perth has been run and won with Australia thumping NZ

AUS 416 & 9/217 dec.
NZ 166 & 171

We move onto the Boxing Day test at the MCG.

Speaking of the MCG they're currently fitting out new LED lights to the light towers and inner bowl. 2 out of the 6 lights will not be working throughout the cricket season as they change the old out with the new.

Forget the lights, have they sorted the pitch out?!

CA have said to the MCC to not play it safe so who knows what we are getting!

So, if I understand this correctly, CA have accepted that the wickets at the MCG might be poor (or even dangerous?), but they won't call matches off while the problem is unsolved?

They've told the MCC to to over react basically. The issue during the Shield game was because the pitch had too much moisture in it. Im guessing the answer will be less moisture.

That's very interesting, thanks.

Has anything similar to that been experienced in any other of the major cricket countries?

They had to abandon a Test in the Windies maybe ten years ago due to the outfield being to sandy I believe.

I think that this is the one you're thinking of? https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2009/feb/13/england-wes-indies-antigua-test-vic-marks

Current BBL update:
THU 6/172 def HEA 143
SCO 131 def by SIX 2/137
RNG 5/169 def by THU 4/171
HUR 9/129 def SIX 104
STA 7/167 def HEA 8/145

The current game between the Thunder and Strikers is currently in an Air Quality delay. Smoke from the bush fires has blown over quite badly.
STR 5/161 THU 1/40 at the time of the delay. They had an air quality reading of 1300! A Hazardous reading starts at 200.
UPDATE: Game officially declared no result. We were only 4 balls away fro there being a result.

Day 2 of the three-day tour match saw England move on to 456-7 before declaring, Pope having taken his score on to 132 before being dismissed. The wicket is a good batting track.

South Africa "A" lost two wickets, one each to Anderson and Stokes to be 62-2 at one stage, but a good recovery stand by Petersen (60 not out) and Second (46 not out) took the score on to 154-2 at close of play.

Day 3 of the three-day tour match saw South Africa "A" batting through the day to close on 325-5, with Verreynne coming in to play a cameo innings of 74, losing only three wickets in the day. This match saw Anderson having a reasonably sized bowling spell after his recent medical problems of 19 - 7 - 41 -3.

I understand that as a result of England having a number of players unavailable to play in this match, it has been downgraded from first-class status.
