All 170/2s will be staying with TfW until at least 2033 alongside the Mark 4s, 197s, 230s, 231s, 398s and 756s :D
It's just occurred to me: that's a full house of digits from 0-9 across all the fleets. I wonder how many other TOCs can claim that?

It's dark so I was unable to get numbers, but I've just seen two 3-car 170s in GA livery with a 153 in TfW livery at the rear speeding through Worcestershire.

It was the only route specifically mentioned for them - and it's certainly true that a 2 car 170 would provide enough capacity on that route virtually all the time. The current HOWL units interwork with the Shrewsbury - Crewe local service at present and that seems to be the plan going forwards as well so the 2 cars aren't likely to just be on the HOWL.

This is all planned for several years down the line of course - they're not expected on the HOWL any time soon at present.
Apologies if I've missed it, but what cascades have to take place before the 2-car 170s get to the HoWL? In other words, what services will they be running in the meantime?

I visit the line every autumn, and I was sort-of hoping that this year might have been the last time for riding the 150s and 153s, neither of which seems well suited to the line.

All the cascades including the 769s and a crystal ball is required for that

As per the original plans, the Stadler DMUs (class 231) are due to arrive in 2022. These will work the routes the 170s are going on to now, allowing the 170s to move to West Wales, with the Heart of Wales covered as part of that.

Initially they're to be used on Maesteg, Ebbw Vale and Cheltenham services

Thanks guys for the info', I'll expect to be riding on 150s and 153s for a couple more years then.

Arrived Canton depot 12.39. So I believe that makes it 3 x 2 car 170/2 units at Canton and, including the 2 units that arrived end of last week, 5 x 3 car 170/0's also at Canton - so 8 out of a total of 12 now delivered?

Does anyone know which ones arrived last week?

I could find out for you if I took the trouble to go back through this thread as everything would be listed there
In fact I can find no report of the numbers of the 2 x 3 car units which arrived at the end of last week - those reported so far include 170270/272/273, 170202/206/207, plus 2 others last Friday numbers not yet reported?

The ones with green next to them are in Canton (unless I've lost track) The yellow T ones are in Tyseley. However, two of the Tyseley ones transferred to Canton the back end of last week but I don't know which ones.

Anamyd has just reported on the TFW livery thread that the 2 which arrived Friday were 170201/208, bringing the total at Canton to 8, with 170272 returning today.

Well, I had bad luck on Friday... I lost my phone at the last minute so I wasn't able to capture the 7-car formation of 170208, 170201 and 153320 going through Cardiff Central that day, so I only saw it in person. For some reason, no other spotters / enthusiasts were around - not sure why...? Absolutely gutted :'( If anyone has or knows of any video footage (or at least photos) of it, please let me know!
