My understanding is that Wabtec is doing the LNER repaint for the BR HST. If they can do that, it suggests that they have some spare capacity. I realise that the ScotRail job is totally different though.

I don't think this is overkill. Inverness and Aberdeen , the two main northern Scottish cities need to be linked by public transport through fast comfortable links. There is no express coach service, or direct links between the North East, Fraserburgh and Peterhead and Inverness. Regional trains have clattered over this route for many year. Only now we are beginning to realise the potential, with the improvement of infrastructure, reopening of stations and consideration of other rail and possibly tram links.
Having proper HST trains belatedly gives this route proper prestige it deserves. Why not be more ambitious about travel links as they promote green economic development?

Agreed it's not overkill in the slightest. Actually it doesn't for far enough.

Refurb HST in Inverness station a shot while ago. Not yet been on a ScotRail refurb or a classic for that matter with ScotRail yet!

Richard Clinnick is reporting on twitter that it looks to be eight in service by the end of the year. Only 18 short and year late is some sort of progress....

Aren't there already eight in service, just not all on the same day? I'm sure someone is keeping a record.

From earlier parts of this thread I'm not really surprised at the Paint Shop at Wabtec having some capacity, the guys there haven't been too overloaded with finished refurbs to work on.

Spotted a refurb at Perth just now on the 0849 Aberdeen to Queen Street. 43175 leading 43183 (with cab door open), don't imagine the next driver would be too impressed if it was raining?

Good news hopefully more to come shortly. Expect a burst of deliveries Kilmarnock must be due to come up with something soon.

Indeed. As is this was the 9th set delivered, this should be the last 4-car set. All subsequent sets should be 5-car.

The sensible approach right now would be to deliver them all as 4-car and add the 5th car to each set at the end of the programme.
