Hi all just received confirmation I shall be going to take the assessments for the second time very soon. I unfortunately failed on the hand coordination test and was told I went far too fast and that my accuracy was really poor. Does anyone have any tips on how to combat this? As I did find it really difficult.

Get your hands on an old etch-a-sketch. It's probably the closest thing I can think of to practice with. You can try drawing the shape over and over again to get the hang of your hands doing different movements

Assuming that everyone does the same shape, I did the first half of it quickly, but then the second part very carefully and took my time. I probably took three times longer to do the second half of it as I did the first half.

JWC's advice is good. I would say simply forget about the time limit, it's probably pretty lenient and I guess this test is designed to check that you don't have some sort of undiagnosed coordination issue.

I failed on this one today...I was too slow! So be careful not to take too long. I thought my accuracy was ok, just obviously took longer than accepted....

If you were told that you went too fast and your accuracy was poor last time, then what do YOU think you need to do this time?

The idea of this one is to balance the speed with accuracy. You can stray from the path a few times, but need to get back on track in a timely fashion. It’s obviously going to have a negative effect if you’re too slow because you’re naturally going to be within the lines, but it’s not all about that. If you look at it like training to drive a train for example; you have to have good coordination, but also have to cancel warnings etc within a couple of seconds.

A few techniques that worked for me.

1. Make use of the pratice runs. Just don't finish it as it goes to the next page. You need to find a technique of holding the control that works for you. Maybe resting your arms on the the chair? Important thing is to be comfortable.

2. Familiarise yourself with the control. They are really sensitive. You don't need to be so heavy with it.

3. The straight lines are really easy. All you have to do is flick the control in the direction you want it go so when I did it I literally took a second or two as you only need to use one controller (it's either going up/down or left/right. If your quick on the straight lines then you can afford to spend a bit more time on the curves as you need to use both controllers very carefully.

4. I went out so many times but I tried to go back in quickly so I don't think it matters if you go out a lot.

Twotwo first point regarding incomplete practice runs is a very good one that I never thought of at the time.

And I agree on point 4, I went outside quite a few times too but always got back inside quickly but still passed.

As previously mentioned, when I did the practice runs I didn't complete them immediately but rather moved it back to the start and tried a couple of times to get used to the controls. I believe you can do this as many times as you like and doesn't move on until you put the ball in the final position
