The plans for the "Royal Arcade" are already out, and the bus station features on the left of this image.

Seems a road parallel to Lawrence Street (alongside the Job Centre) is the plan. It is rotated 90 degrees clockwise too!
Ahh, I didn't know plans were announced. Surely this will not help improve bus use with it then being further away from the shops I would at a bare minimum swap the car park and bus station.

Something needs sorting there. Even Macclesfield Bus Stn is better than Crewe and that is saying something!

It can't be hard for them to do. I think it's just a reluctance to do it. Arriva is having too much fun getting money for nothing on the departure fees to easily give it up. Personally, I would knock down the shops in Queensway and build the bus station there (basically turn it 90 degrees clockwise). Entrance and exit onto Delamere Street only. There you go, the rest can be redeveloped. The best example of what Crewe needs can probably be found in Andover. Really small but presentable and welcoming.

Good shout with Andover. I really do think the redevelopment of the bus station and surrounding area could be a catalyst for a lot of growth in the town.

Crewe has the potential to be a great little town. The train station probably has a higher footfall than the physical town centre right now. It's just a point where long distance travellers pass by. It's not really a destination. When Cheshire East sort it all out (They will probably wait 4 years and then claim that if they get re-elected, they will revamp Crewe but that is another story), Crewe really could be a point of interest. It will be tough to turn around though given the gradual death of the town.

I have seen a report, albeit not from a reliable source, of changes to the 130 Arriva service in January 2020. I would be interested for any confirmation or otherwise from other contributors to this thread.

I hardly ever use the bus I will admit. My partner used to commute to work on the 130 Wilmslow-Didsbury but learned to drive and got one extra hour at home each day as a result, he would often wait for 30-45 minutes for a bus home from Didsbury in the evenings.

Since then the service had become hourly and only runs to Didsbury, eliminating one of the reasons I used to use it, for example to get to the Manchester Royal Infirmary conveniently.

Last time I used it on a weekday morning to get to Cheadle it provided a service to two people from Wilmslow, picked up a couple on Colshaw Farm estate to Handforth, then a chap in a wheelchair in Handforth. I walked back home from Cheadle which was tiring but enjoyable. The bus was small and modern. I can't see how it could be even vaguely profitable given that it's not subsidised.

I remember the Crosville E29 and E30 so it will be sad to see it go, but it would not surprise me if it did.

What changes are these? Judging by your tone, they're not good.
Sorry, a bad source with no details other than something a bit like "no longer serving Wilmslow" which is too vague and hence why I thought I'd ask in this thread. One implication is that I don't see how the service could survive if it were "no longer serving Wilmslow".

Arriva's typical death by a thousand cuts, the other side of Cheshire they're planning to Withdraw the X1, Runcorn-Liverpool express in January

I just read on facebook that Arriva are supposedly withdrawing the 130 on the 25th of January.

It has been confirmed on the Arriva website:
https://www.arrivabus.co.uk/north-west/updates/changes-to-services-in-the-manchesterhalton-area/

This is a historic route dating back to the early 1920s; its frequency was still every 30 minutes (hourly Sundays and evenings) until about 12 years ago. Its withdrawal removes all direct public transport connections between Macclesfield and Alderley Edge/Wilmslow and deprives the Colshaw Farm Estate of all public transport.

It was still half hourly up until a couple of years ago.

Do you hear that? It's the sound of Julian and his friends at d&g getting ready to provide a crap replacement because nobody else will provide one.

Well, if nobody else will provide a service then it's a surprise that D&G may be prepared to take on the risk (unless the council tender it).

It will be a surprise after their previous attempt on the 130.

I would like to see Stagecoach expand into the area. When they last ran in the area, there were a lot more services so they were competing a bit for shorter distance passengers. Now, there is only the 88 left.

Speaking realistically though, I can somehow see CEC wanting to faff about throwing 1 bus onto the 88 and diverting it around Colshaw Farm. Seems like the sort of thing they would do. Alternatively I think you are looking at tender but it would not provide the cross border links which are currently provided as it would compete with the 42B which Stagecoach wouldn't be happy with.

You mean the 88a that d&g peddled (no pun intended) as a 300 replacement but it ran at an irregular interval like every 40 minutes or something, pretty much condemning it to failure from the start?

I wonder how long before midland classic and select buses stay in there current management given the fact that peddle has shares in both of these companies

No real need for the management to change. Julian Peddle has, effectively, been in overall charge of all of them for some time.

what I forgot to put was I wonder if eventually they will keep there trading names or if they will eventually be put under the centrebus brand

D&G shareholder sold out due to ill health according to the statement from Centrebus so I see no reason why this would affect the other operators

D&G will be the operator, awaiting for full details to appear on Vosa website. The rumour mill is saying it might get extended to Stockport
