What will happen to the 333 that will go in after 004? Will that stay longer due to it being Christmas

It was 333 004 and on past performance should be ready this Sat 14th dec.
Anyone any update on 333 009 which not long after its interior refresh was despatched to the Railway technical centre with serious structural problems and may not be economic to repair.
Could it be that class 333 future is not too bright.
K
Last I heard on WNXX about 009 is that it will take approximately 9 months to complete

9 months work is probably serious money on a 20 year old unit so if they can strike a good deal with CAF more 331s perhaps.
Also in the past where stock has been late entering service they have offered as compensation extra units free or at knock down prices. Just a thought.

I still think 009 will still return next year and if not then I guess we can say it's been scrapped (im giving it until July/August)

Dont forget the 332s where withdrawn for a time with similar structural problems and I believe are worn out.
My monies on 16 more 331s which would give Northern a slightly more standardised fleet.

This all sounds a little worrying, if there are serious problems with the 333s then West Yorkshire is going to need to call on some more North West based 331s pretty sharpish.

If they end up ordering an extra 16 331s hopefully they'll be specified with a more appropriate seating layout, the 4 car 331 represents a significant seating reduction on a 4 car 333 due to the number of tables.

I quite like the tables for laptops etc. Dont forget the Aire valley peaks are supposed to be 6 cars but still waiting for Network snail with the glacial progress with platform zero at Leeds.

To be honest at this point in time I'd be grateful for any train, my morning commute 0730 Skipton to Leeds is cancelled 2/3 times per working week due to the shortage of units

Granted that the above post's make for a worrying read and wont be Northerns priority for concerns...

I forgot to take note of the unit number but on my travels from Shipley to Leeds a few days ago one of the refurbished units had a seat missing all of it's cushions, leaving only a bare metal support structure!

Hope the 333's don't end up sharing an ill fate, using them twice a day the 333's are my favourite commuting train (other than how busy they get!) In a weird sense it's nice to have our own unique trains and not be the same as the rest of Northerns electric network. :E

Althoigh could that be service booked for or 32X or 331 rather than a 333

As mentioned previously there is a shortage of units due to refurbishment or in 009’s case being kaput. You can’t just pluck a unit from elsewhere as that would cancel another service, probably on a route with far less peak trains than Skipton - Leeds.

If they know 333009 is kaput, surely they can bring the 321/322 that is stored at Heaton back out?

It is in warm store but as the unit has been swapped recently I suspect it may be due for an exam. It’s not as simple as people think to just drag another unit out.

There are reportedly 3 x 333s out of use (may be more). One at Skipton, one at Holbeck and one at the railway technical centre leaving 13.
The continued use of 321,2s may also be down to either, still some crews to train on 331s or most likely most of the 4 car 331s are in use around Manchester.
May be resolved when and if Network snail finish Leeds Platform 0 and some 3 car 331s can be taken out of store for the promised 6 car service.

P0 at Leeds isn't scheduled to come into operation until 2021 as I understand it. The blockade over Christmas is part of the works to enable this to be built.

What’s actually happened to the 333s and 332s as far as structure is concerned?

333007 is the unit going from Neville Hill to Holbeck today.
.
Also 170457 is currently on the way back from Crewe to Neville Hill, so that concludes the ex-Scotrail 170 repaints at Crewe.

I think the 170 part needs to be mentioned in The Northern Unit Refurbishments thread
