Rumours are that they will be withdrawn in the next timetable change on Dec 8th. Anyone have any info on this?
They're nice on the Harrogate loop and the capacity is right but rather a waste in terms of expending a lot of energy in heating up transmission oil at low speeds. They could really do with regearing them to 75mph or fitting a mechanical transmission like the 195.
So are we saying if they are transfered, 195's will replace them on the Hull/Brid/Scarborough route?
Absolutely no chance... certainly not for the 15th December change. Only Hull crews sign between Hull and Scarborough, and nobody based at Hull signs 195sSo are we saying if they are transfered, 195's will replace them on the Hull/Brid/Scarborough route?
No. Rumour is that replacement wd be 155/158s, many of which are not refurbished. No indication 195s wd be involved at all
I’m pleased to report that the lovely class 170’s are in use between Sheffield, Hull and Scarborough today. The 14.16 to Scarborough from Sheffield seen at Beverley was 170459, with the 14.10 to Sheffield, which I used, was 170455. I returned to Beverley on 170474, which formed the 15.00 from Hull Paragon.
170s staying on Yorkshire Coast line as well as the Harrogate line, Hull to Halifax will have 1 diagram and all of the above mix in with other 15Xs
Harrogate loop seems a waste for 170s. It would eb more suitable for a 156 with lower speeds due to regular stopping.
I doubt that any "Lancashire-side" train crews have been trained on 170s.York to Blackpools always seem to me best for 170s but never seen one on those services.
