Rumours are that they will be withdrawn in the next timetable change on Dec 8th. Anyone have any info on this?

I haven’t heard anything as yet, although I was under the impression that some of the 170’s were to be used on the Sheffield - Hull and Scarborough service from the timetable change. I recall the Northern Connect specification for the then proposed Sheffield to Hull service being a mix of refurbished 158’s and refurbished 170’s. I think we’ll maybe have to wait and see. It’s not long to go.

195s should be out and about in service around Sheffield from the 15th so perhaps it's the Sheffield to Hull jobs they are being took off?

Will be a shame as they're quite suited to the route.

They're nice on the Harrogate loop and the capacity is right but rather a waste in terms of expending a lot of energy in heating up transmission oil at low speeds. They could really do with regearing them to 75mph or fitting a mechanical transmission like the 195.

So are we saying if they are transfered, 195's will replace them on the Hull/Brid/Scarborough route?

They are better off waiting for the Hybrid Drive trial, if successful this type of service should suit them perfectly.

No. Rumour is that replacement wd be 155/158s, many of which are not refurbished. No indication 195s wd be involved at all

Absolutely no chance... certainly not for the 15th December change. Only Hull crews sign between Hull and Scarborough, and nobody based at Hull signs 195s

I’m pleased to report that the lovely class 170’s are in use between Sheffield, Hull and Scarborough today. The 14.16 to Scarborough from Sheffield seen at Beverley was 170459, with the 14.10 to Sheffield, which I used, was 170455. I returned to Beverley on 170474, which formed the 15.00 from Hull Paragon.

That is fantastic news about 170s still about at Bev on Hull to Scarboro line!!

In fairness as a line we have fared pretty well in the last few months compared to otheres on the Northern network.

Btw 180113 and not an 802 on 1054 Bev to KX this morning!

Not sure if the Hull to Halifax with its numerous stops is the best thing for 170s; always seem to me to be best at speed.

Excellent new service however from Hull to Halifax and given shambles on TPE a useful alternative (if it runs!!) from Humberside to West Yorks.

It’s good news, and here’s a photo’ of 170474 which I took prior to departure at Hull Paragon.
It seems I cannot upload the photo’ at the moment, I’ll try again before I go to bed.

It has some decent line speeds to enable it to get into higher gear and will be rotated regularly giving it a few days on the coast then a day on the Halifax then a few days on the Harrogate before back to the coast

Harrogate loop seems a waste for 170s. It would eb more suitable for a 156 with lower speeds due to regular stopping.

I agree that 170s are wasted on Harrogate Loop because they don't get out of 1st gear enough to cool the gearbox oil because of gradients Leeds end and 60/65 linespeeds.
