I must be out of date ;) Of the 3 car 195s I have all but the extra 3 ordered delivered with most in use and just a few in store. Lots of 2 cars in store and a few still awaited.
Still based on your numbers how will 28x195s replace 47 pacers.
K

That's correct. I still have 195019, 021-025 and 195131-133 as pending delivery.

The balance of 195s will be enough to replace the remaining 142s. Although there's 47 of the latter still in the fleet, all of Heaton's are now off lease (replaced by 158s and extra 156s), so it's only those which remain in service at Newton Heath (around 20) that need to be replaced.

Not forgetting there is around 10 units away for refurb/PRM in one go, so once they’re all complete there’s an extra 10ish units for service. Obviously they’ll probably plan on one or two being away at a time anyway.

I still find it difficult for the figures to add up. Before the recent cull of half the 142s northern always seemed short of units and I'm not aware of any more 195s coming out of store since unless a few have appeared this weekend.
And, theres the 23 144s to go too (shame).
Someone mentioned the return of the 10 or so units away for PRM etc which will continue for quite some time as many units are only PRM modded and still await interior refresh.

Not an issue on Sundays as everything is cancelled anyway

So what people need to do now is follow up on "We built this Pacer" and compose a version called "We scrapped this Pacer!"

It looks like the 142s in the North East have being rounded up at Heaton on Friday night 13/12. Whether any are let out on Saturday 14/12 remains to be seen.
These units ended at Heaton on Friday night having been in service on Friday: 142001,013,014,063,065,068,070,071,087,089.
These units were on Heaton on Friday and weren't allocated (the date in brackets is their most recent use): 142018 (5/12), 142032 (12/12), 142067 (11/12), 142087/088/094/095 (all 12/12).
As far as I can tell there are no 142s spending Friday night at Darlington, only 156s and 158s.
The 156s that moved from Newton Heath to Heaton on Friday (156421+156489+156490 on 5Z56 0910 NH-HT) were all put straight into passenger use on Friday afternnon/evening after arrival in the North East.
which route did the 156's take from Newton Heath to Heaton? S&C perhaps via hellifield/Carlisle or Leeds?

Pacers-102 - out
49 incoming from other operators(arrived)
58 brand new class 195's.

total incoming and new 117 units
Northern gains 15 units pluss 18 to arrive before 2022.
also around 45 of those units are 3 car so gaining 25 extra carriages after 3 car 144s are gone.loads of extra capacity.

I disagree. We are desperately short of capacity in the peaks east of the Pennines and our share of 25 extra carriages will hardly touch it. Totally rammed 2x2 coach Pacers on the Harrogate Loop have been/are being replaced by 3-car 170s. How much of an increase in capacity is that?

Saw the Newton Heath to Gascoigne Wood convoy but due to its early running and low sun I could only identify the rear set as 053. Does anyone know what the leading two sets were ?

I can't believe I've already had my last Pacer on the Saltburn branch! :'(

There seems to be plenty on the Leeds to Huddersfield via Bradford and Huddersfield to Sheffield via Penistone workings but as each day goes by the numbers are starting to dwindle.

I'm expecting the first week in January being the final week of class 142 operation in West Yorkshire (the class 144's are bound for the Adwick to Sheffield, Scunthorpe to Lincoln and the Sheffield to Huddersfield workings) after that complete class 150 operation until they are too withdrawn.

Yes I've done the sum too but the point I was making, perhaps rather badly, was that Northern where short forming and cancelling trains when they had 79 142's plus 23 144's so how can things get better when only 20 or so new 195s are stored or awaited and the pacers are gone.
I've always been of the opinion that Northern would be short of stock if they where given say 200 extra trains. Perhaps maintenance is not on keeping with the age of most of the fleet.

I too am wondering how it will all balance out, as I was under the impression that 195s are for the extra services under the 'Northern Connect' banner.

I suppose that if it all proves too little, they can alwaysdo some of the e-pacer PRM mods on the three carriage 144's
