Last day in the NE for 142s was Saturday. Only 142013/32 and 65 were around in the area. Thirty years plus service. Such a sad day indeed.

Number 70 on Saltburn/Darlington/Bishop services this morning.

Can't answer that one unfortunately. But 071 is also out in North East along with 063. Number 71 is on Bish/Darlington/Saltburn services.

I'm in Morpeth now waiting for 063! Going to take it all the way up to Carlisle. I'm so happy, I thought I had missed my chance to do this again! It's on the 14:55 from Morpeth.

Gotta admire someone prepared to go to those depths of self-flagellation....

Why do you still say 'last day' when two were out today?

Following the Class 142 cull at the weekend, I was surprised to see one on the 12:35 Kirkby to Manchester Victoria service today. Unfortunately, I wasn't close enough to see the unit number.

Yet they are still short forming services? Typical northern

I suppose Northern can't win. They get slated by the press for retaining some Pacers longer than planned, but on the other hand they'd get slated for overcrowding or cancellation of services due to unit shortages.

That's about the sum of it!

To me it proves that the powers that be (some of which probably don't know very much about the ins and outs of running a railway), can't have it both ways. They want rid of Pacers, they're quite well on the way to that. They wanted it before the replacements were ready (not entirely Northern's fault), so they got short-forms and cancellations instead. The Pacers could've stayed a bit longer to help iron things out for a little while until the new stock settled in and things are in the right place...
But of course, that would be too simple!:rolleyes:

Oh. Well I suppose it’s better than no train. Thankfully there’s the 170’s on the Scarborough to Sheffield service today.
