The orange army are at the site in droves. Here's a view from across the road:Does anyone know if Dolgarrog reopened with the line on 15 December? RTT suggests so (albeit with 'N/R' entries) but NRE still says:
Thanks.
Some pictures of the recent tunnel works at Blaenau Ffestiniog taken by Total Rail Solutions.

Wonder what BCR of all this work is.....
I suspect the BCR is Beyond Comprehension and Rationality. (But I won't speak out against keeping my local branch line open...)Wonder what BCR of all this work is.....
Rock bolting to hold it all togetherWhat have they done within the tunnel?
You can see that is what they've done, but I find it hard to believe that slate is strong enough to retain the bolts. It is surely too friable?Rock bolting to hold it all together
I don't think the slate extends down to the level of the tunnel. If it did, they'd have been quarrying the slate out years before the LNWR set about building its tunnel into the area. (The fact that the tunnel entrance is surrounded by slate spoil heaps is a little misleading.)You can see that is what they've done, but I find it hard to believe that slate is strong enough to retain the bolts. It is surely too friable?
Slate isn't very friable ("crumbleable") but [some of] it can be cleaved. That's why there are bloody great heaps of waste all around Blaenau (and millions of roofs) completely undamaged by frost. Somehow they knew whether a big block was worth sawing up then splitting, if not it was just dumped. You can see that is what they've done, but I find it hard to believe that slate is strong enough to retain the bolts. It is surely too friable?
Any news on when Dolgarrog reopened (or may reopen), please? Wiki claims reopening on 15 December but previous comment here suggests that in practice this was unlikely to say the least! The orange army are at the site in droves. Here's a view from across the road:

No point trying to catch a train there yet.
They're also still hard at work on improving drainage north of Dolgarrog station.

Strange... RTT says

TfW will be doing that so passengers don't think they can get off at Dalgarrog, but as the station is physically inaccessible, the pick-up only restriction doesn't count for anything as a prospective passenger wouldn't be able to board anyway...
