Bus and rail I’m on the same course!! Out of Plymouth!!

local induction on the 6th then onto Swindon that night...

just got my travel card, do we need to book a ticket or can we just get on and go?

also I’m external, where is the gateline??
Assuming you’ve got a temporary travel card then that will act as your free travel on GWR services until your permanent one arrives. You can use it for leisure and work purposes as you would the permanent one.

Hi, I’m on the same course too with local induction at Exeter then off to swindon ready for Tuesday.

I’m gonna drive to Exeter then drop all the uniform home then make my way to Swindon. I don’t think you need to book your tickets you can just get on, I’ve noticed there’s no Gwr trains to Swindon, we will have to get a train to Bristol tm which is likely to be cross country then a Gwr train from Bristol tm to Swindon so will have to see if we get discounted rates with other toc’s yet.
I’m not sure where gate line is but there will be plenty of people there to ask that will point us in the right direction.

there should be gwr trains to Swindon even if changing at Bristol.
where are you traveling from? Plymouth?
although if you are in uniform CrossCountry will honour you duty travel and you should have no problems

Travelling from Newton abbot, the only Gwr train travelling up in the afternoon/evening is 21:00 I think all the rest are cross country

Yes I see what you mean. I thought there was more, you can always travel via reading the 16.54 or 18.54 are both gwr all the way they take a bit longer but for the first trip will not give any problems.

well done all on starting and Merry Christmas

No I won’t be wearing uniform, it says to put on business attire if we have no uniform yet so I’m just gonna wear trousers, shoes and shirt then get changed when I get back home sort my case out and make my way

Yes that is the one I was thinking of getting, but I’m also thinking of getting a cross country up to Bristol tm then a gwr train from there to Swindon so I’m there earlier have a meal and chill out

Technically. I spoke to the Guard on all SWR services I travelled on from home to wherever it was I caught the GWR services. Always prepared to pay, but most wouldn’t sell me a ticket. The one occasion I had to get a XC service from Basingstoke to Reading he sat me in First Class and told me to help myself to a brew :E

The first time I travelled to Swindon after my local induction, the administrator at the depot gave me a travel warrant so I didn’t have to pay on SWR. I didn’t need to use it though. It’s again one of those contentious points, but it’s general railway etiquette to speak to on board staff as a courtesy and be prepared to pay for a ticket, but even showing a temporary pass will usually result in being waved passed and told to make yourself comfortable.

So it looks like our course on the 6th has Par, Plymouth, and Exeter on it? How many are on a course roughly??
I’m doing the induction and then probably leaving Plymouth around 5 or 6 ish?
Really looking forward to getting started now!!

I’m not a driver but start on January 6th at Temple Meads, and will be in Swindon for 3 weeks from the 7th. I’d imagine it will be quite busy, bearing in mind it’s at the County Ground.

I assume you’re doing customer service/retail training there? Good luck with it! Is it there for the duration or are you at The GWR building for some of that?

I sat mine in August and I'm still waiting for a date - which according to HR is because they are waiting to hear from driver managers.
