Thought this board this morning was rather honest. Trains cancelled due to shortage of reliable running stock!

Also overheard a customer being told that the other operators had stopped accepting GA restricted tickets as they were 'fed up' with the fact that the Ips - Peterborough Service had become so unrelated!20191227_081659.jpg

At least a couple of Ipswich-Peterborough services ran today using the last GA 170. 1000/1150 return and 1400/1550 return both ran.

I hope whoever wrote that doesn't come under fire for not towing the party line... Good on them for being honest.

No different to what some guards have been openly saying on the local services really.

The focus of the front line staff, both on trains and at stations over the past few weeks has been overwhelmingly on assisting the customer during a period of large scale disruption and they have done so superbly.

Couldn't agree more. GA are lucky to have some superb staff that don't deserve some of the problems being thrown at them.

The last GA 170 was out today on Ipswich Cambridge services. The morning's Norwich to Stansted turns were all 755/4s on electric power south of Ely. Slippery rails meant the wheelslip protection kicking in at speeds of up to 50mph.

170271 on Ipswich to Cambridge services in between a pair of 754/4s today and easily keeping time. How long before it is due for pastures new?

06:24 Norwich to London Liverpoo Street
06:48 Norwich to London Liverpool Street
08:00 Norwich to London Liverpool Street
08:30 Norwich to London Liverpool Street

All cancelled and one set replaced by bins.

Have any MK3 rakes been withdrawn or are just a lot faulty?

A derogation was granted, so I don’t think GA would have withdrawn any if not for reliability. whether the terms of the derogation were given to GA or if they asked for the terms I don’t know. The window seems small.

Unrelated, does anyone know if GA will run named services again with a headboard and a PIS announcing it? The 17:00 off LST used to be called the East Anglian, With the Ni90s and the 745s in operation soon.

I suspect that is the last of their worries at the moment with the service being decimated on a daily basis.

Do the 321's all have disabled toilets ? - I cannot see how they will be replaced by the March deadline

The 321s (non-renatus) do not have a UAT (amongst other points of non-compliance), however the exemption for them runs until 1st December 2020.

A number of vehicles (15 or so?) have been stored due to needing overhauls or not economic to repair. All former 9 car sets have been only 8 for many months now. That said with only a limited (no more than hourly service in operation since 24th December) it is disappointing that so many were unavailable for start of service today, it just illustrates how much fire fighting is going on to keep the service running right now. Must be having an impact on their bottom line though.

A quick point on the 755s being labelled 'Basils', as of mid-October their reliability was on a par with 195s, superior to that of 331s, TfL's 360/2s and well above that of the 37-hauled temporary sets used before their introduction, and of course well above 230s for as much as that counts for anything. Their performance is still poor but for units in service for, at that time, less than 3 months, the 755s' score is well 'within tolerance', despite recent issues.

I will wait for Mr Ford's TIN watch next month before I judge. Until then it's just a bit of fun.

I see it said with the ASDO it was 2 small stations, I thought it was 4 or 5 ? Gardens/Haddiscoe/Elmswell/ Dullingham and I think Kennett in one direction ?
The article says 3 out of Norwich (which were Brundall Gardens/Haddiscoe/Spooner Row), and 2 out of Ipswich (Elmswell/Kennett).

If something is attributed to a fault with the signalling system or a train crew issue though it won't go against the figures for the 755s will it?

Why are TFLs 360s so bad? Did they always used te be below other family members?

Does not say much for 195s or 331s ! with an average of 4, 5 or more 755 failures a day !
