Worth also discussing with your current employer if you receive a job offer. They may be willing to let you go early but it depends on the business needs.

Thanks for the info. I'll speak to my manager too although not sure if I can go early. Now just need to prep for the interview questions.

You may be asked what you believe the role entails..... remember it’s not just about your role (all details in job description) - it’s also about what you can do to help others as well, so assisting with luggage, helping the Train Manager with anything they need, assisting customers with train times and connections etc. It’s the whole “team player” thing. Don’t think for a second that you just say that to get the job - you usually end up doing all that as well :)

Just remember the job role, team player stuff and remember to sell yourself and use any example you can that show organisational skills and timekeeping skills. And always use the STAR format in your answers.

Good luck 8-)

Which depot did you apply for out of interest?

With regards to starting dates and leaving current employment try not to worry too much.

The general rule for most notice with a UK company/organisation is 28 days, although I've known some people having to work up to three month's notice - although this is rare, some employers expect long term employees to work a long period of notice depending on their contract.

With regard to a TOC (potential employer) I had an interview for a TOC role in the summer (sadly the job went to someone else). During my interview I asked about the start date at the end and one of the interview panel told me the start date could be next Monday or in three months time depending on the availability of the candidate. I think once the HR have made their choice of who gets the job, there is a degree of flexibility to accommodate notice periods.

There are however other jobs I've applied to that want canidates to start ASAP - but generally this will be made clear on the job description so you at least know if it's off limits if you cannot get released by your present employers.

All the best.

What are the sales targets like in this role. The job description mentions them and I just wondered if they are achievable.

The average changes depending on sales throughout the depot. January for example is much quieter so the average is lower. As long as you go through the train regularly you won’t have any issues.

I've just completed the application which is up now for first class hosts and RSM. I work in a customer service role in retail at the moment so hopefully have some good experience for it. Does anyone know roughly how long it could take to hear back, I know the current situation may have an impact but just an idea would be nice.

Depends what depot, and if there are any vacancies at the moment.

I've not really seen anyone to ask tbh. The place is a ghost town.
I've been wondering what kind of passengers are using XC, LNER etc during lockdown as you don't commute to work as a fireman or doctor to Newcastle York etc lol
