Good to have a confirmation :) In terms of units, those non-compliant trains total 57 units of what will soon be TfW Rail's 147 units as of 23/12/19. In other words, 13 of the 36 150s, 14 of the 18 153s, and all 30 Pacers.

So, 5-6 months to PRM modify 13 150s and 9 153s, replace 30 Pacers and 5 153s with 9 769s and 5 230s, and get the Mark 4s into service. That should be enough time, right...? :p

Ha! Bets on 2021 anyone?

It has taken 12 months to PRM modify 23 150's and 4 153's, that is a total of 27 done in that time. The rate of work did speed up a bit as time went on, but another 22 in 6 months - quite an ask! Also, the 9 769s and 5 230s plus 3 sets of Mk 4's need to arrive in good time to join the 12 170's (only 10 arrived so far) to replace 30 pacers, 3 rakes of mark 2's and 2 sets of mark 3's which are due to go. We'll see.
Edit - forgot that 158's were being PRM modified in 2019 and all are now done - so freeing more workshop capacity for futher mod.?

Not sure what the delay on the 230's is. They seem to run a lot of test trains on the Cotswolds Line. One must be ready for testing by now.

BBC News confirming that TfW Rail have got the dispensations they need to keep running Pacers and other non-PRM compliant trains into 2020. I haven't bothered copying and pasting the entire article, as the only piece of new information is:

Presumably 'the middle of 2020' is until the May TT change, when TfW are hoping to finally have the 230s, 769s and Mark 4 carriages in passenger service.

BBC News - Older trains in Wales can stay on track despite new accessibility rules

The latest Modern Railways has all the MTIN figures. The 143s are the second most reliable TFW fleet; only beaten by the 175s! Quite an achievement given the stop/start nature of their work and the number of attachments and detachments.

This question only occurred to me today. Of the 4 TfW 153s that have been PRM modified and fully refurbished (153320, 153323, 153325 and 153333), the latter 2 are ex-GWR. Does anyone know if they've been fitted with WiFi, to bring them up to the spec of the former 2 ex-ATW examples...?

So much for only running Pacers on Rhymney line & doubled up.... just seen a single 143 waiting at Bridgend to do the Vale line run.

GWR units were already fitted with WiFi I thought

Have read that there is a diagram on the vale of glamorgan for a pacer

is there? This would have been the 0742 from Bridgend.

I do suspect that Pacers will be widely used as they were prior to this year, regardless what TFW say.

Have seen so far three Pacer workings on the Barry line today, although one was paired with a 150. So evidently TFW have eaten their words immediately

I think generally Pacers will not just stick to the rhymney line but will escape onto other valley lines diagrams. Mind you one class 143 had a smoke problem at pengam this morning while doing the 0700 Rhymney to Penarth service with a class 150.

I've read all the TfW dispensation letters. Dispensations expire as follows: Mark 2s and Mark 3s on 30/6/20, 142s & 143s (can run on their own and some are) and 150s on 31/7/20, and 153s on 31/12/20, including what I think are the 4 West Midlands ones TfW are apparently getting (already have according to their train accessibility page!) :p

Currently on tfw 153320 and I can confirm it does have WiFi and the refurb is done to a high standard

They had singles over Christmas

and?

that’s irrelevant - the PRM deadline came in yesterday; meaning that 142/143s were limited to certain tune, which are publicised on their website and Journey Check website.

something which appears to be totally ignored today.

Possibly low on rolling stock idk but I would hope they used them as a last resort

I was on 320 which did so I really don't know it was slow to log into but once on it worked fine bit odd in my opinion how one has it and one doesn't
Probably because 325 was never an ATW unit when they were all fitted as its come from GWR. Theyve been part of the 'permanent' tfw fleet quite a while now though so seems odd that they never have been fitted.

No WiFi stickers to promote it either. Refurb is excellent though, even if the engine sounds rough as hell!

I still dont understand they do a wonderful refurb and don't fit WiFi very odd but I much rather that train to the unprm 150s/153 both don't have the best of looks and the 175 also arent the best they probably are up with the 158s I think

The key point is that the dispensation letters from DfT to TFW regarding derogations for pacers make no mention of confining them to certain routes or restricting them to use coupled with compliant units, so TFW are ignoring just their own self-imposed restrictions on the use of pacers post Jan 1st - but not good PR from TFW given previous announcements that they were (mainly) to be used as 4-car formations on the Rhymney line Perhaps it will take a bit of time for things to settle after the christmas/new year shutdown through cardiff?
Back on topic - when are the 5 153's that came from GA going to leave Landore and enter service? A couple more pairs of 153's coupled could free up 2 more 150's.

What were their numbers

Pacers are still being used on non-valleys services. I just had 143616 on the 1604 Cardiff Central to Fishguard Harbour service, as far as Carmarthen :D

@tomos dafis I've done a draft for the updated version of the lists, just need to get round to editing them.

Lovely why use a pacer there Pembroke Dock had 153's wouldn't it be better to. Have a double 153 there and we have a 143
