There must have been six 397s at Longsight this morning at 10:00 but the only thing I saw working on platform 13/14 was 802 218 The usual cancellations and telling people to take services to Preston where some TPE services were starting bound for Edinburgh then change in the capital for ScotRail for Glasgow. 350 406 and 409 were out and about.

09:07 Glasgow - Manchester Airport, and 13:07 return to Glasgow were 397.003 today (4 Jan.). At least 2 397s were parked in sidings north of Preston station. My first rides on a 397; the inevitable hard seats, but quite nice trains - though I think they are too small, and will get very overcrowded once the tourist season starts.
Meanwhile, 350.406 on the 10:07 from Manchester Airport only ran as far as Preston.

I travelled from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport and back on 397005 today - the 15:25 ex Piccadilly and 16:07 ex Airport. I believe this was the second of two out and back trips it did today.

I wish the Mk5A stock had the same layout as these, as the window/seat alignment in standard class is superb - something I first observed at Velim, 18 months ago, when I didn't immediately realise the seats were actually fitted! The windows and pillars are completely different to the Mk5A's.

Obviously in the right place at the wrong time.
Saturday 0500 MAN-GLC
and 0907 return
Then 1307 MIA to GLC
and 1712 return
Which were 397003
Also 0907 MIA to EDB
1300 return
Starts from Lancaster in morning. Which I think was 397005.
Having seen Longsight on Saturday I only noticed 2x397. Easily confused with Mk5 sets. Which seems to get maintenance on a Saturday.

What's the chance of any this Saturday? If there are, would they be the diagrams referred to in post 1324?

The 05:00 Picc to Glasgow & 13:07 Air to Glasgow and returns are the Glasgow diagrams on Saturdays.

edit~I'll check the Edinburgh diagrams for this weekend as it can (and does)change.

Is the delay in entry into service simply due to a shortage of trained crew, or is there another reason, such as software updates or other mods?

I saw a 397 (003) come into Carlisle today on a 1230ish service to Manchester Airport with the external coach displays showing "This Train is not in service, Do not attempt to board.)!

Are there still just two daily diagrams? Don't the rest of the 350s leave in a week or two?

They were. The reservations are aligned with the 397s now. You no longer get a seat map, and selecting "window, airline" for example might get you a table aisle seat on 350s. Moot point given the number of 185s on the route now anyway, but better than loads of cancelled services I guess.

Going to try and get a 397 tomorrow, is there a non reservation coach?

Part of coach A is unreserved but if the seat reservation system is operating then any seat with the green light over it is unreserved. If paper tickets are out then any seat without a ticket is unreserved.

18:12 from Edinburgh to Manchester Airport on Tuesday night was replaced by a Class 185. Plenty of confusion onboard with just one very quiet announcement about the switch and seat reservations no longer being in place.

That diagram is a 185 pretty much every day.

Thought seat reservations had been suspended until things have settled.
