More lowercase letters and extra ex-Rosso style stripes gave me the feeling that Best Impressions were somewhat involved in the 'improvements'. Despite not being a fan of this two colour diagonal stripe livery I do quite like the improvements, especially (as mentioned above) the ZX Spectrum stripes - just wish they were a bit brighter and contrasted a bit more.

Is this new livery designed to replace the original or is it for certain routes?

Those areas are in Greater Manchester so I think it fits.

It’s that age old problem of having any form of geographical tag in a brand. Some folks get a bit bent out of shape.

Worst example was Lincolnshire Road Car in the mid 1980s adopting the East Notts fleetname for their Newark area ops. Think NCC got terribly flustered about it IIRC.

Given the GNW operate predominantly in Manchester and that their routes in Bury and Rochdale link those towns with Manchester, it’s not too disrespectful. In fact, do they have any routes wholly outside Manchester??

Tbf the MD has acknowledged someone on Twitter who had similar views and hes said it's a fair point. Dont get many MDs or CEOs responding to criticism (not aimed at anyone in particular ).. The 52 and 53 don't go in the city centre.

52/53 operate within the Manchester City boundary though so they do operate in the city if not the centre?

Nigel Featham is a decent guy and fairly approachable on social media.

I hardly think there is anything wrong with a bus company based in Manchester and running predominantly into Manchester using ‘Manchester’ as a fleet name.

If they ran locals in another town you’d have a point, but they don’t.

You mean like Rossendale (pre Rosso) operating local services in Bury and Rochdale.....

Another one I remember is again in the mid 1980s where West Riding suddenly (having had no problem in the previous 50 years) decided that their depot at Selby had to have WEST RIDING SELBY fleetnames; don't know if it was because it was technically (and still is) in North Yorkshire.

Dare I roll the grenade that East Yorkshire operated for a number of years in Humberside..........

Selby was in the West Riding, until it was placed in the modern construction of North Yorkshire in the seventies.

I know - it was a consequence of the 1974 reorganisation that saw the Ridings reordered. However, it was odd that having been called it since the 1930s and the “anomaly” existing 10 years that they felt the need to do it.

That being said, there have plenty of odd names that outwardly made no sense, such as BRISTOL in places like Swindon, Hants & Dorset replacing Wilts and, of course, the mythical Alder Valley!!

Until the 1974 reorganisation of local government Selby was indeed within the West Riding, but was moved into North Yorkshire as part of the reorganisation. The adoption of West Riding Selby fleetnames at the depot followed the adoption of WYPTE livery/MetroBus fleetnames at NBC depots within West Yorkshire; as far as this affected West Riding, Savile Street, Belle Isle, Featherstone, and Castleford depots adopted verona green and buttermilk, leaving Selby as the only depot still using poppy red/West Riding fleetnames - the addition of Selby to the fleetname was just a little nod towards a local identity, as the vehicles weren't transferable anywhere else in the West Riding group without repaint anyway.

Thanks for the explanation. Given when it started, I did wonder if adopting the WYPTE Metrobus livery might have been a factor. Then again, I know WYRCC didn’t repaint all Leeds/Otley/Bradford vehicles into Metrobus colours but didn’t know how assiduous WR were.

Cheers again for the information

West Riding/Yorkshire - and Yorkshire Traction, in so far as it only affected the small allocation at their Waterloo depot - were much more "enthusiastic" in repainting into WYPTE livery. When WYRCC finally got around to repainting some single deckers instead of applying the full "MetroBus/West Yorkshire/The easy way from here to there in West Yorkshire" below the waistline it applied an abbreviated "MetroBus/West Yorkshire" fleetname on the cant panels, NBC-style.

A new fleet numbering series will be used on the buses currently being branded for the Orbits (source: friend at GNW). The E200s are being given 40xx numbers.

I was trying to find the discussion about GNW using 5 digit fleet numbers but I must of skimmed past it.
They will most likely be retained as First feulling system requires a 5 digit fleet code. Someone on here suggested that GoAhead were gearing up for a national fleet number scheme but I cant find anything about that either. Can anyone confirm this?

Go North West kept the First fleet number system for the buses that they purchased from First with additions to the fleet also having 5 digits just to keep things organised (same as Tower Transit did but with their addition of the 2/3 letter type codes)

It would appear that 4013, 4016, 4019 & 4021 are currently in service on the 'Orbit' 52.

Also, I read there will be 12 E200s in total, not sure if that figure includes 64001-3 or not...

No numbers but SK15GXZ noted in Orbits livery outside ADL Anston today. It had gone when I later passed again so must have been taken to Queens Road or somewhere else
