Indeed, but I thought the point being made was that they were still "Northern" rather than now being off lease.

So presumably the RSCs will contract drivers to move them about.

The point I was trying to make was do FL or GBRF for as an example have drivers who not only know the road from Gascoigne to South wales and are currently passed to drive 142s?
Someone suggested to me they could hire Northern drivers with FL or GBRF as pilotmen who know the route.

For certain it’s GBRF and FL drivers that are doing the move

It's always baffled me how they do moves like these too. How do the drivers get the relevant traction knowledge? Surely it takes some time to learn all the controls, handling etc compared with their usual charges. It would be interesting to find out, if perhaps a little off topic.

I can't promise a speedy answer, but know a GBrF driver. I've emailed him to see if he knows.

A pool of GBRF and Freightliner drivers are trained on all sorts of unit traction, my mate here in Gloucester drives 142,143,150,153,158,159,165,166,170 that I know of.

As has been said on these forums times aplenty, whatever it's showing as patched/timed for on RTT and the rest, take it with a pinch of salt :lol: sometimes they show up with ideas from the sublime to the ridiculous!
For the record, all the recent 142 stock moves by rail that I've seen have been under their own power.
