I have just had my first trips on the 755’s, doing Cambridge-Norwich, out and back a few times, using an Anglia Plus day ranger, starting out on the 08.09 Cambridge-Norwich which was 755 417, which ran well and faultlessly, my impressions of the Stadlers, are that they are really good trains, comfortable and look Classy inside, the seats are really nice and the layout good, with the raised seating, also like being able walk through the engines and hear them working, I like the overall design of them, they look a good train and interesting with the engine in the middle.

My second unit was 755 416, which joined at Ely, it arrived late as was having engine problems etc, and had long stop at Ely, nearly being cancelled a couple of times, all rather chaotic, think the driver was in touch with control to try rectify, once got going again it ran normally to Cambridge, then worked its booked run the 13.09 Cambridge-Norwich, which with some hard nosed running, clawed back some of he time deficit, they do shift well, I would be interested to know what dk1 thinks of heir performance, if he’s driven them yet and had chance to put them through their paces,

I am on the 1300 Norwich to LST. I am sure that it will be the roughest Mk3 set with no toilets but I might at least get to see the nice new shiny 745 train even if it is flashing by at around 180mph combined speed.

If its 9n the 1230/1500 as diagrammed you won't pass each other.

Oh great! Will try to delay my exit from Norwich for half an hour tonight to get the 17.30 (if 007 is still up for it!) plus one.jpg The '+1 stop' mentioned on the PIS is a bit dopey. Surely they could have displayed the calling stations better than that. Also I guess the data for 'seats available' is derived from the carriage CCTV cameras (lack of heads above the seats!)
Personally, and I guess somewhat romantically, as much as all these new trains are brilliant, when you see two or three filling the platforms, you do get an idea about how the railway landscape is going to look in the region after all the old varied stock is gone. So for the few not the many I might say... 'missing you already!'

745007 at Liverpool Street just now. I'm back out on the 1000. Lots of GA staff looking around and a few bemused punters wondering why!

Great pictures! Iron Man and friends have started replacing Tin Rocket and the Skodas!

Annoyingly I was unexpectedly early out of my meeting just around the corner from Liverpool Street, but just a couple of minutes too late to catch the 1500. So I'm enjoying the Mk3 ambience on the 1530.
Double annoyance that I spent a few quid excessing my off peak return to an off peak return to somewhere else that has no evening peak restriction, as I thought the meeting was going to run over.

Good having a buffet but catering is being removed in Sundays and various other services

I can’t wait to try them, I might be able to take the 15:00 ex Liv st tomorrow, depending on what time my meeting ends. Does anyone know if the buffet will be staffed, or if there will be a trolley, or both?

Planned to be both today but 07:40 diagram is only booked for a buffet counter. You might be lucky & have both again.

I wouldn't regret. In a few weeks this thread will probably be full of bashers desperate to get one last experience

Both trolley and buffet the 10.00 down, 12:30 up and 15.00 down. Have not seen the trolley on the 17:30up.

Which services is the 745 planned to make tomorrow? Will it make the 1000 ex LST and the 1230 ex Norwich as it did today?
As i understand it - the same diagram Monday to Friday - until a second unit is available.

Not surprised they make a.loss on the catering. On the 1500 out of Liverpool Street. 2 guys on the trolly, 2 people manning the buffet getting in each others way and 2 more staff members milling around on the customer side of the buffet counter.
Granted it's day 2 of 745 operations, but still!

First 745 trip.
Unsurprisingly very similar experience to the 745. There are extensive areas where the entire floor is raised, rather than just the seat area like the 755 so a number of ramps.
Decent mix of table and airline seats in standard.
5 toilets for this length of train might be a bit too few. 3 different designs of cubicle: accessible mega bog and 2 different non-accesible.
The vestibule doors seem to stay open during station stops, which sort of defeats their purpose?
Decent provision of luggage racks and the same large overhead shelves as the 755, perhaps slightly less space between shelf and ceiling?
Smarter acceleration than the loco hauled set, unsurprisingly.
Movable armrests so easier to sit down and get up than the stuff they are replacing.
Slightly more rail/wheel noise than a Mk3, mainly because you're never far away from a wheelset, but no gangway squealing and groaning. I'd say the actual ride is on a par with a Mk3.
Interestingly the centre section tunnel through the electrical equipment has a big open area in the middle of it.
All in all I would say adequate for the route they are used on.
Will see if I can work a first class trip in the next few weeks.

Edit. Been on the train nearly and hour and a half-hour now. Backs of my thighs getting numb and pins and needles down one leg. And I had a trip to the buffet. Sorry to say the s**ts are not comfy for this length of journey. I suspected that might be the case. They are ok for a shorter 755 journey.
Seat squab needs to be deeper to support more of the leg.

The fact that there are ramps in some carriages and not in others with the same raised seating area can be pretty unnerving if you walk through the entire train.

It didn't bother me.
Quite a nice cost environment as effectively the space is broken up into half coach lengths by the gangways and vestibules.

Oh the PIS displays need to be calmed down, they roll through the screens far too quickly.

I was wrong on this point
They do shut, but it appears can be held open. They were all open at Liv St and all stayed open at Colchester. Closed other than when the button pressed at all other station stops.
I'd actually set them to be open whilst the train is moving. There's no benefit to them being shut whilst the main doors are shut and they are a bit of a nuisance if you're moving through the train.
