Hi all

I've a couple of hours spare whilst the better half goes shopping on Oxford Street in London in February.
Any recommendations of a place to go/round trip to make in a couple of hours? Preferably I would be thinking into the old Southern Region.

Thanks

You could do a Cannon Street to Cannon Street rounder via Sidcup, Slade Green and Woolwich. This picturesque journey is often featured up there with the West Highland Line as one of THE greatest railway journeys in the world.

All joking aside, it does actually run over the oldest section of passenger railway in London.

How would this work using contact less (on credit card)?
I would have come into London from zone 4 (Kenton) and then tap out.
Presumably I would tap in at Cannon Street and then out again at Cannon Street - how would it know that I've actually travelled out to Zone 6 and back?

Round trips:
Cannon Street to Slade Green and back as above
Waterloo to Kingston and back via Richmond
Blackfriars or St Pancras to Sutton and back
Victoria to London Bridge via Crystal Palace
Orbital tour of North, East, South and West London lines, but you'll need to change trains a couple of times

Novelty trips if you haven't done them before:
Tour of DLR network, but you might need sharp elbows to get the 'driving' seat
St Pancras to Ashford and back at 140mph, but it will be expensive.
