I went on a Friday in December and about half of the LO services I saw were 710s. I'm sure you'll see some, don't know whether they have specific diagrams.

If you spend maybe an hour at Willesden Junction I'm sure one will turn up, if not just get a train to Gospel Oak. The 710s get up to about 40mph but I imagine on the Watford DC they are nice to ride on.

There are 6 710s and 2 378s booked to be on the DC every day but I don't believe they have set diagrams.

I'm sure they're faster off the mark than 378s, maybe its just where I've ridden them but the 378s seem sluggish.

I remember hearing driving style on LO was the cause for this, electrostars can certainly shift relativley quickly on Southern for example. The 710s accelerate as rapidly as all new pantograph EMUs we've seen recently though, their acceleration is certainly better than the 378s. Would be interesting to have some actual stats to compare.

In which case, can we expect to see some slight journey time improvements?

I think it's been discussed on here we won't see improvements on the GOBLIN due to the constraint of the single bay platforms at either end. The 710s don't however seem to hang around too long at stations and the timetable would've been written for diesel stock (?)

Perhaps we could see improvements on the West Anglia lines, Liverpool Street may be a constraint.

As for other lines with 710s they'll also use 378s but I wouldn't be surprised if you could already shave off a few minutes by more aggressive driving of the 378s. Contingency of the timetable might not want that though.

With this post being about the Watford Jct to Euston line, I was speaking more specifically about this line rather than the others.

Let's hope to maybe see a few minutes off the schedules. It may not be much overall but it all adds up when someone looks at a journey planner, a few minutes can mean a lot.

All six diagrams on the DC are diagramed for 710's however 2 378's normally work daily. They can end up on any diagram depending on where they stable overnight.

Eight 710 diagrams with two 378s working?

I note that it is also possible for units to swap workings at Watford Junction with a short delay when necessary.

No 8 diagrams in total WN40-WN47 are the diagrams which are all booked 710's however 2 of these are worked at present by 378's.

Do you know why the driving style is slow? Surely it isn't that slow on the Watford DC line.
