Moderator note: There is already a thread to discuss the works at Gatwick Airport see https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...tion-fit-for-purpose-any-future-plans.187081/ ); this thread is to discuss the service alterations during those works

Presuambly this will also have an impact on services from May. Is anyone able to shed any light on any expected or planned changes to services running through Gatwick for the duration of the work?

No splitting and joining at Haywards Heath - the current trains which split will run to Littlehampton. The current Southern Victoria to Brighton trains will run to Eastbourne instead of Brighton.
Gatwick Express 387s will be used on Brighton to Hastings workings.

Why does the (temporary) loss of platforms 6 and 7 at Gatwick Airport result in trains no longer splitting at Haywards Heath and a reduction in trains to Brighton?

I was thinking this, maybe all (4) Gatwick express go to Brighton, this means they are not blocking the platforms at Gatwick.

Are these the only changes?

Because over 24 months from May, Gatwick Airport will be losing the use of platforms 3 to 7 starting from the high numbers and working back, this will result in no terminating platforms for Gatwick Express. Which by the plans I’ve seen will all extend all Gatwick Express services to Brighton instead, to make way room for them at Brighton the Southern Service to Brighton will instead divert to Eastbourne/Hastings this removes the need to split and attach trains at Haywards Heath.

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
Does this

a) mean that the 2 extra Gatwick Express through to Brighton services an hour will have to pick up stops at Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill and Hassocks all day?

b) a lot of people book Southern only advance tickets to travel Brighton to London Victoria, will they be able to pay the same prices and use Gatwick Express instead or will other arrangements be in place?

Thank you for providing this handy information as someone who uses the Brighton Main Line on a regular.

a) I would expect so
b) given that GTR already charge a premium fare for GatEx services, despite the services carrying lots of fresh air, i would expect them to exploit this situation and NOT offer cheap advance tickets

Gatwick Express reduces to 2tph operating just the Victoria to Brighton services, I think all are booked 12-car 387s. This is what frees up 387s for the services along the East Coastway.

Which releases 377s for the Eastbourne and Littlehampton services?

I do wonder if Coastway users get used to trains not splitting/joining, and consistently with more than 4 carriages off-peak, whether the service pattern will ever revert back once works are complete....

Will the Thameslink service that terminates at Gatwick Airport continue to or be extended to Three Bridges/curtailed somewhere else?

Not seen anything listed for either Thameslink or GWR services that terminate at Gatwick Airport as of yet. But I do have a personal interest in the coastway services as I commute on them as well as signal them.

As far as I can see there are very few changes to these services, except GWR has increased to 2 services terminating per hour. Platforms 1-3 for the slow lines are not as busy with services and there is not much rebuilding happening on these platforms.

I understand that the Cambridge to Gatwick Services on Sunday's will run through to Brighton from May

Yes, and reduces the number of trains at Redhill on a Sunday from 6 to 5 an hour as it goes via the Quarry line.
