Hi, I am planning to use Yorkshire Coast Day Ranger (https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/pr85bcff2da340ac91b02ad85f5d7d8b.aspx) one day in the next couple of weeks. It is apparently valid on the 93/X93 Arriva bus between Whitby & Scarborough, so my plan is
  • An early train to Whitby
  • bus to Scarborough
  • Trains from Scarborough stopping off and rejoining at various stations as takes my fancy
  • return via same route.
My only concern (as this is the first time I have ever used a rover / ranger ticket) is what happens if the bus driver refuses to accept the ranger ticket as I doubt they will see that particular ticket very often? If I end up having to pay bus fare between Whitby & Scarborough is there a way to claim it back?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You'd have to take it up with the bus operator. It might be worth asking before hand on some form of social media platform whether they still accept these tickets (We know they do but it gets them to reply to the question). This could then be used to show the driver. I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem in general, and at worst if you had to pay a bus fare i doubt there would be an issue claiming it back from the bus operator.

I believe a Forum member has trouble with a bus driver refusing a PlusBus and the bus company resolved it by refunding the PlusBus. So in the event there is trouble I would suggest contacting the bus company.

@robbeech's advice is sound as well trying to get them to confirm via Social Media before hand!
