A couple of weeks ago there was an unbranded Greater Anglia 3-car 170 parked-up at Central Rivers; was it having some mods on its way to Wales?

Ive seen quite a few pacers working on non Valley Line/West Wales services today. This morning the first Cardiff to Milford Haven and return was a pacer (booked 150). Also the 1100 Swansea-Fishguard (also booked 150 i believe) and return working to Cardiff and also a pacer has worked Swanline service (booked either a 153 or 150). There are more pacer workings in West Wales since they were meant to be withdrawn from service than there ever was before.

To have 150s on the Cardiff Valleys due to their higher passenger capacity per vehicle made possible by the final Pacer derogation allowing them to run up to the cut off date without restriction

Yikes - a Pacer on the Cardiff to Fishguard boat train yet again! Goodness knows what people arriving from Ireland must think when they see that - Wales a third world country? Mind you, with all the drug addicts and beggars sitting on the streets of central Cardiff and nothing done about it, it really is beginning to look like the third world.

Surely, the Cardiff to Fishguard service is manned by a Canton crew who would also be familiar with the 170”s? Given that the 170’s are meant to be medium distance cruisers rather than branch line frequent stoppers, why is a 170 not now used on this longer distance fast service?

Especially if they have had a rough crossing across the Irish Sea. It is crewed by a Carmarthen crew and Canton based went out many years ago. The crews at Cardiff are based at Cardiff. T&he best is being made of a bad job at the moment

The 142s and 143s are normally diagrammed as one pool so in theory either type can turn up on any service.

A quick check has shown at least one 142 on these services today - 142069 worked the 0535 Cardiff - Milford and return, and is currently on the 1604 Cardiff - Fishguard.

A mixture of both I think.

Whatever does the 1604 Fishguard usually does the first Carmarthen to Pembroke Dock and return to Swansea the following morning and then what? It used to sit in Swansea to do the 1100 Fishguard since they changed the time of the boat but now im not sure what happens since the new timetable.

Back to Fishguard again. Always was but altered on temporary STP on weekly basis for months

Travelled on 1555 Swansea to Manchester as far a Neath. Was a 150. Also 150 on platform 3 waiting to do 1600 to Pembroke Dock. I'm guessing the amount of 150s needed to cover on Manchester to South Wales is another reason why pacers are turning up on pretty much most West wales services that dont interact with either the marches or heart of Wales line. At least the 150 going to Manchester was a refurbished one with plug sockets.

Yep but not on a Saturday should be a 150 or 158 but they have been putting a pacer on
I'm guessing if the 1604 is a pacer the night before it will do 1100 fishguard the next day. Am abundance of pacers in West Wales recently.

There was 1 150 and 1 142 in operation on Pembroke Dock branch Which seems odd given that the 150s are needed elsewhere that we didn't have a 153 or worse a pacer doing both

Would the 158 be back for the 15:45 or that a 153
Also yay I look forward to being woke up by a pacer
The 06.59 never goes back to Pembroke dock it goes onto the fishguard. 158823 is going on the 04.50 from crewe to Milford haven unit swap in Swansea

No 150 has actually been refurbished under TfW to their spec (as in livery, seat moquette, table surfaces, floor coverings etc) although 150264/284/285 were repainted after corrosion repair, and their interiors stripped and rebuilt as part of their overhauls, but all to mock ATW spec. PRM mods and fitment of power sockets alongside them don't count as refurbishment.

Are the 150s going to be fully refurbished like the ex-ATW/GWR 153s, as I thought this was a franchise requirement...? It's a bit concerning that the interior mockups in the TV advert were 153/158/170/175 but not 150. Also, has any TfW spec 158 interior refurbishment started yet and which 175s are at Widnes...? Was good to see the retrimmed seats in I'm assuming the wrapped 769. The 170s can wait because they're staying long-term.

I believe all units will be done to full TfW spec as per 153 and 175 refurbs. Presumably the 150s will get an interior refurb and revinyl (I'm sure they are just getting a vinyl wrap I've seen) once all PrM mods are out the way and the unit shortage is solved or at least eased. No 158s have been internally done either.
The 175 at Widnes is 175010 and the 769 in the pics is 769008.
