Now I'm not doubting you, just confused ; the Corby poster says that the 180s will be introduced in May, the 180s have been stated as replacements for the ex GC sets, and the Corby working is an ex GC set. Or is it all very complicated?

Well the date being touted for the Angel (2+6)sets replacement is December 2020, with the rest of the HST fleet.

Rail Magazine
Given that they still haven't got the list of power cars moving to EMR from LNER right, I'll treat that information with the contempt it deserves!

Harris and Clinnick would be well advised to put as much effort into their day jobs of producing a magazine as they do with spouting on Twitter.

That would seem a logical timescale to me!

On a related matter, people interested in current EMR HST fleet may wish to be reminded that there is one HST that does a cooked breakfast included in price of a 1st class ticket on a Saturday morning - which being off peak day can have reasonable priced 1st Advance fares, or potential for w/end 1st upgrades - although it's usually a busy train so relying on a walk up upgrade may not be wise if hungry!

I’ve been away for a week and may have missed it, but is there a date for when the ex LNER power cars will replace the current ones? Or has it happened already? Seen some pics of the flying tomato with EMR branding...

A post on facebook said it will be a phased introduction from the end of January. All of the current NL sets have until early summer to be withdrawn.

Thanks to everyone for putting together the Mon-Fri diagrams - really helpful.

Question - are the Saturday diagrams correct in the EMR timetable?

If no engineering works are going on then yes they should be correct.

As 43055 posts, on some dates with engineering works - and there are a few sats coming up - they can run Meridiens as shuttles north and south of the block and not use HSTs at all, so that can be a risk.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but it seems to be the most appropriate place to ask my questions.

Network rail have recently announced (covered on the Electrification thread) that Bedford - Corby will not be energised until December. As the replacement of HSTs relies partly upon a cascade of 222s from Corby services does anyone know whether this will still be possible against the PRM deadline for HST replacement of 31.12.2020 - and I know it could be extended again.
Further upthread there was the suggestion that the 180s might have been in service last month (replacing the HST short sets), which obviously hasn't happened. Does anyone know if this is entirely Covid - related, or are there some problems with the 180's? How does that square with the PRM extension for the short sets, which expires, I think, at the end of next month?

The 180s can in theory replace the short sets.
But the PRM derogation would have to be extended if the 360s don't enter service in time, or else they would be forced to significantly cut services.

Thank you for that.

As far as extending the PRM derogation again (and being, I think, realistic about the arrival and introduction of the 360s within the timescale) someone at DfT is going to have to make a hard choice, and one that cannot be deferred without presenting a fait accompli.

The PRM dispensation has only been granted once thus far for EMR's HST fleet, but that will have to change.

Currently the PRM deadlines are:
- "inherited" 2+8 sets dispensation to 28/07/2020
- "inherited" 2+6 sets dispensation to 31/12/2020
- ex-LNER 2+8 sets dispensation to 31/12/2020

Given the progress so far on the ex-LNER sets, there is now no alternative but to extend the 28 July deadline for the inherited fleet.

Doesn’t seem much of a “hard choice for DfT” really.

HSTs will be in service until the May 2021 timetable change now, it's been confirmed on internal channels.

Does that mean any of them will be getting repainted? If they're going to be around for almost another year then some EMR stickers at the very least would be a good idea

They already have EMR stickers and branding. And I believe one set was going to be repainted into purple.

Doubt it'll be more than the last of the ex LNER sets coming that'll be painted up, even then I believe its dependant upon there being time to do it.

The last ex-LNER set will probably be fit for traffic around the beginning of 2022 based on what needs doing to them and how long it takes.
