Southern Redhill drivers sign 16x for North Downs work, and cover 2 crew diagrams per day. Not aware of plans for them to be used on Brighton services, which are GWR Fratton crews east of Havant.
They aren't
Fratton is growing from a very small depot to a medium sized depot so there's plenty of drivers to cover the work

2x 166s worked 2C93 from Cardiff to Exeter tonight, I am not sure if this has happened before but I don't think Exeter has had 2 166s stored overnight...?

Last week end there were was at least one stabled there overnight. High Summer 2018 there was one stabled there overnight during the week

Forget to mention. They work the first two up to Severn Beach and Bristol TM.
Ah I see, that makes sense. I think last week 166207 did one and 150001 did the other and 166207 failed as it was meant to do the first service and ended up doing the second one instead.

166204 was still working in the Thames Valley within the last week but I think that all other 166s have now migrated to Bristol

Correct, all 166s bar one have transferred to SPM. Technically we don’t need that one as there are no longer any 166 diagrams in LTV land. I presume we still have it whilst there is one 165 away at Wolverton (165112 & 114 swapped places in the early hours of Saturday morning).

Thank you for that. I think that 165114 is the last 165 requiring air-cooling to be fitted, so in approximately 4 weeks or so 166204 should be free to join the rest of the fleet in Bristol? It would be a nice touch when the time comes if 166204 "Norman Topsom" could spend its last day in the Thames Valley on the Henley branch but I appreciate that the railway is not run for sentimental reasons.

Seems to be a poor availability of Turbos and 158s around on Bristol services today.

07:28 Cardiff to Portsmouth delayed and formed of a 5 car 150! (150/0 + 150/2)

06:01 Portsmouth to Cardiff formed of just 2 carriages vice 5 and heavily delayed and not stopping at some stations

07:04 Portsmouth to Brighton formed of 2 carriages and not stopping at some stations

Very rare to see a 5 coach 150 in Pompey runs these days.

There’s still a 3 car turbo on the fuel point at Fratton which likely has something to do with it ⛽️

Is that what the track replacement and such that I see is all about? I can't recall that siding ever really getting used for goods very much.

That earlier post you referred to was about increasing the GW traincrew numbers.
The track changes in the vicinity of the fuel point and the abandoned container handling area are to do with additional stabling for increasing SWR trains, which will be needed with full 442 introduction.

All the sidings behind the fuel point had been removed, however supposedly somebody forgot to tell GWR which has resulted in a hastily arranged bodge job being put in place complete with temporary lighting.

A couple of years back there was even a suggestion that GWR would have to stable their DMUs elsewhere, (eg Eastleigh) presumably that was either duff gen, or overtaken by a new plan.

Still looks to be a shortage of Turbos. Have some gone back to the Thames Valley temporarily, or are they just out for maintenance?

06:01 Portsmouth - Cardiff formed of 5 carriages (2x 158) this morning. Not that I’m complaining.

However 16:27 Cardiff to Pompey formed of just 150/0 and hideously overcrowded when I tried to catch it at Bath. Probably didn’t help the preceding service was delayed.

Both of these have usually thrown up a Turbo as of late.

No, no Turbos have come East - the last transfer between divisions was 4 of the 5 remaining Class 166s on LTV going West, leaving 166204 as the sole-remaining LTV 166.

Bit of a shame to hear, back to hunting out the declass sections of the 165s to work for me then. I take it 204 is only having a brief stay of exile and will also head to Bristol shortly?

AFAIK it’s on loan while various mod programmes on the 16x fleet are completed - long term we shouldn’t have any 166s, and the 769s should displace they majority of the 3 car 165s west.

166204 should return West once 165114 is back from Wolverton, having air cooling fitted to it. It's the last one now.

There are also three 3 car 165s that have yet to go through the RHM mods programme, 165102,103,109. The RHM and air-cooling mods were occurring in parallel but that seemed to end with the timetable change which I guessed, possibly incorrectly, was due to not wanting to hold a second 166 back at Reading as cover. I did wonder if these three would be done (approx two weeks each) once 165114 returns and then 166204 head west?

There are also seven 2 car 165s that have not received RHM mods 165121,123,125,126,130,133,136 but Reading will still have a requirement for 2 car 165s after the 769 introduction is completed so perhaps these seven will remain unmodified?
