Are the 37s continuing into 2020 and if so are they likely to make it to the summer?
I hope they at least make it til the end of February as travelling down from Scotland for a few nights in Cardiff hoping to go on them.

They are supposed to be in service till May 2020. This is depending on any further delays to the 769s and their deployment on the rhymney services

Thanks. I'm sure delays are likely as well. Can anyone confirm what 37s are on the service is it 37 421, 418 and 419? And I believe there are two rakes of mk2s now?

421, 418 and 025 although the latter is non ETS fitted and usually sits at Rhymney as a standby to assist any failures or performing any shunting tasks

Are 153s cleared upto Rhymney? Apparently 37s being replaced as soon as Feb by 153s... don’t shoot the messenger, taken from Facebook

The Saturday loco-hauled service was scheduled, but hasn’t been run with a loco.
I understand that this may continue to run with units.

The Saturday service will not run as hauled - nobody prepared to fund the window security bods.

Well, didn't TfW promise that all Rhymneys would be going over to 4-car trains (mostly double Pacers, plus the 37s)? If so, are all the daytime services double Pacers now? If not, 150+153 at about 63m is about the same length as a double Pacer (about 60m). I hope the 37s don't disapear too soon though, I want to do the Rhymney line on comfortable stock with seats that line up with the windows and the 37 diagram is timed to run in the dark until March (I was planning to go towards the end of March).

153s would struggle with timekeeping on the rhymney line I think.

I think they would be OK if part of a formation including a 150. Where they may not be so beneficial would be in embarking and disembarking with just one door to each vehicle.

I should think that even a 4 car set of all 153s would still match the timings of a 37. Whilst they may be sluggish, the 37s hardly set the world on fire either, and dispatch should be slightly quicker on a train with actual power doors, rather then doors powered by big burly security folk.

They certainly struggle on Radyr to Coryton. Will be interesting to see how they cope with summer loadings on the Blaenau line. 158s used to work the Rhymney line 15 years ago. They couldn't keep to the Pacer/150 schedules.

I've done some digging and sadly this rumour appears to be true. Anglia 153s supposed to take over the turns sometime in February.

Does that mean ex GA ones will actually be dedicated to the job or merely join the Pool and work round with the rest. Could, perhaps, as they are not going to be PRMd unlike the original fleet.

I thought people loved the loco hauled sets surely they should focus on getting rid of the pacers as nearly everyone hates them!

37421 at Gilfach Fargoed on 2R24 with fire Brigade in attendance and smoke from loco, believed to be overheating. There is a rescue loco en route so perhaps 37025 is having a run out.

Not 37025. 37418 which had worked 2R20

It doesn't matter whether enthusiasts love them or not. They cost a fortune to run and are totally unreliable, as this break down has shown tonight. All Rhymney and Bargoed services cancelled all evening until shutdown.
Congestion and delays/cancellations at Central because trains and train crew are out of place. All because a 50 + year old loco broke down near the top of the Valleys (and yes, I was caught up in it).
The sooner the 37s are gone the better.

I know that but we're not in February yet, but I mean now that 025 has overheated is it still in service? if not what loco is taking over?

I would suspect it’s whatever of 421 and 025 are available first and otherwise will be DMU vice.
