Of course your mate was there.

Also the first thing that comes you all your minds is ... OMG this bus will be a scrapper/write off.

Not one asked if people were hurt - honestly the people on this forum

It's a bus forum. Also its clear no one was hurt or there would be ambulances in the SM pics or videos. Its clear its only the top deck that on fire:

Tbh I've already posted on my Twitter that I hope everyone is safe especially in a place that's normally very busy and involving a bus service that's busier than most. I think it's just common sense to know anyone with a heart is concerned for everyone's safety. Not something that necessarily needs to be said a lot

Just because nobody said it doesn't mean we aren't thinking it. I'm pretty sure everybody on here hopes that nobody was injured, it doesn't need to be said.

IIRC it was 34396.

AFAIK there is a panel on at the top of the stairs opposite the near-side seats that contains a lot of the electrical systems, it ones one of the design features of the MMC to make accessing the electrical system easier IIRC so it could be electrical.

I thought that at first too but looking at photos the source does appear to be further back in the upper deck (obviously pure speculation), but it does seem likely that it was arson and if not probably the 'electric box' at the top of the stairs as you mention.

Primarily no-one was hurt.

It is a metal box made primarily of aluminium, whatever the cause of the fire it will burn quite ferociously as that is what happens.

Looking at the photos of the blaze on Twitter, the bottom deck looks okay but the same definitely can't be said for the top deck.

Hopefully, if it is vandalism, the CCTV will show the culprits.

seen the remains of it and tbh only the upstairs appears to have been destroyed, however it looks similar to Lothians 390 that went on fire at 2 years old and that wasnt repired

The damage to Lothian's 390 was far more severe and IIRC there was very little left of it when the fire was put out.

On another note anyone seen buses with the colouring for the 3 branding done but not finished yet? Seen a couple on the 2 today already. Are they still bus sharing til the branding on both is fully completed?

Yeah saw a few 2 branded buses also that haven’t been completed. Saw an orange branded on the 2 a few times. Once the branding has been completed they’ll get it sorted. They’re doing it quite fast compared to the 201 which is still waiting for the majority of their buses to have their branding completed.

Almost forgot about the 201 it's been going on that long tbh. Shame as well as the branding for the 201 is one of the nicer ones

That’s not why it was scrapped.
Never said it was due to this, It was reported when it arrived and promptly returned back to Overtown after an few days. The dart's are common for the gearbox to jerk while changing.

201 is still being branded but believe they are struggling to get vehicles off to get it completed. Unfortunately the vinyl being applied is low priority and will be done when the vehicle is able to escape service for the day.

Thanks for the info. Can imagine it's tough due to how many are needed for it. Same with the 2 and 3

Seem to recall that 390 almost snapped in two when being recovered, as it was left as little more than a shell which was holding everything else together. There was only ever going to be one outcome for that one!

Damage much worse than seen in the pictures. Large portion of bottom deck has been damaged due to smoke and water damage.
