Having booked beforehand, we then board the 18:02 CallConnect route CC4 service to Thornton Abbey (Gatehouse Car Park)*, arriving there at 18:21 on a Thursday.
*Although being a bus, the CC4 runs to different "Demand Responsive Areas". That can be quite a wide range of areas, so I've said at the Gatehouse Car Park for the sake of argument. I'm happy to clarify matters.

The abbey has unfortunately closed for the night, so we walk 700 yards by the field track to Thornton Abbey railway station and wait for the 19:34 Northern service to Barton on Humber where we arrive at 19:51 on Thursday evening.

Handy field track, as Google was quoting 0.6 mile back to the station presumably walking along the road, so it left me rather stuck!

That appears to be it for the rest of the day, so in the morning we return to the bus stop outside the railway station and board the 0606 Stagecoach East Midlands service 28 to Mansfield (Bus Station), arriving there at 0720 on Saturday morning.
