The Jubilee line, named for the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, was opened in 1979. This year marks its Ruby anniversary - 40 years in service, as well as the 20th anniversary of the extension from Green Park to Stratford, which opened in 1999.
In celebration of this momentous anniversary, the Jubilee Line, in conjunction with London Transport Museum’s Hidden London programme, are offering you a rare and exclusive opportunity to travel on the line, including a section that’s not usually open to the public.

Journey 2
Date: Sunday 10 November

Hang on, does that mean actually boarding and alighting at the Charing Cross Jubilee Line platforms?

The fact that the train is going to visit the now closed platforms is a mitigating factor, but I cannot help wondering what might have been had the route not been constrained by the signalling system.

ie, what type of special service might have operated, using which types of rolling stock.

£90 for a one way trip on a normal tube train. Anyone prepared to pay that is welcome to it!

It also includes a tour of Charing Cross, which some are forgetting.

Combining the average cost of a Hidden London tour with the average cost of a heritage train trip lands you somewhere near £90, with a little extra for ‘guided’ nature of the train trip.

Whilst I agree it’s very much on the pricey side for what it is, it is easy enough to see where that price comes from. The LTM is very much targeting the ‘experience’ market, and - with the trips selling out - it’s clear that demand outstrips supply.

If the money is what keeps the LTM functioning (it isn’t a profit making entity) in the current TfL financial climate then that can’t be a bad thing.

If half or a whole set of the 1983TS had been rescued! Otherwise the 1938TS would be the usual.

Also, would the special 1996TS train travel nonstop to Charing Cross, or all stations up to Green Park, get non-ticket holders off, and onwards to Charing Cross?

I suspect it'll be a dedicated special; given the close headways on the line it would be too disruptive to try to turf the regular public off at Green Park - to say nothing of the adverse headlines if anyone ended up at Charing Cross when they didn't want to be and were seriously inconvenienced as a result, plus the risk of that happening accidentally on purpose by people who didn't want to pay the full price of the tour.

If they had any of the old Jubilee stock, that would be impressive !

The original Jubilee line stock is in use on the Bakerloo line. The last of the stored 1983 stock appears to have been scrapped in 2015.

This is far too expensive

It is only too expensive if the London Transport Museum can't fill it. If it is oversubscribed, it is possibly too cheap. London Transport Museum presumably think they have a market who will pay £90.

It is fairer to say that it is aimed at / only available to people with a lot of disposable income.

Ah yes, it was the 83 stock I was thinking of. I didn't realise that some had gone to the Bakerloo line.

No, the Jubilee line started with the Mark II 1972 stock that now works the Bakerloo line.

The 1983 stock came later (and no longer exists other than a handful of static preserved / repurposed examples).

And oversubscribed it is.
