Hello all,

Yesterday I was intending to travel from Victoria to Rainham (Kent) using the combination below:

1) Anytime Single from London Terminals to Denmark Hill
2) Monthly season from Denmark Hill to Rainham (avoiding London Terminals)

I was sitting on the 1540 when it got cancelled and eventually caught the 1749 from Charing Cross to Strood (via Sidcup), followed by a Strood to Rainham Thameslink train.

Southeastern say that wasn't a valid split because the train didn't stop at Denmark Hill, which is incorrect according to section 14.2 of the Conditions of Travel.

However, I'm wondering if it was a valid route - my season is valid via Bromley South,v Bexleyheath (and having asked previous) valid via Woolwich Arsenal but not Greenwich.

Is it valid via Sidcup, or not?
In any case, would I still be entitled to delay repay as my intended train was cancelled?

Thanks
(Apologies if this in the wrong forum, I was torn between Fares and Disputes)

It is valid via Sidcup, yes. The problem appears to be whether a London Terminals to Denmark Hill ticket is valid between London Bridge and Lewisham/Hither Green. I suspect that is the problem. Hopefully someone more knowlegeable with routeing in London can confirm.

Thanks.

There's only two sensible routes between London Bridge and Denmark Hill - changing at Lewisham on Southeastern or via Queen's Road Peckham on a Southern and changing at Peckham Rye.

The "yellow pages" give PK, VL and VR, which appear to be to be via Peckham Rye, via Lewisham and direct via South London Line, so I would have thought it was okay, but if I was an expert I would be asking here! ;)

Ok. The problem is that that still doesn't help you if your train ran fast from London Bridge to Hither Green avoiding Lewisham, which if it was a Strood train it almost certainly did.

Okay thanks. It did run fast.

Is any of this affected by them allowing free Tube transfer to other terminals? I.e. what's the point in doing that if the ticket still isn't valid? I guess I could just put down two cancelled delay repay journeys and hope for the best but that seems a little like taking the mick

Thinking about it, why does it matter if it is valid via Hither Green? My London-DH ticket is valid via Lewisham and my DH - Rainham ticket is valid via Lewisham so I have a complete valid journey? Maybe I have misunderstood

It's only valid if the train goes via Lewisham. Sadly the bit between St Johns and Hither Green direct is not covered.

That's a pain then. I wonder what they'll say regarding Delay Repay - I was delayed by 2+ hours regardless of whether I took a valid route home or not

Thanks for your help

I would say that the ticket was valid if you were advised that ticket acceptance was in place, without consulting the Routing Guide.

Discussion of the alternative train, except for the explanation of your final arrival time, is therefore a bit of a red herring.

What's necessary is to determine if the ticket was valid for the original itinerary. Was your service cancelled from its origin?

If your booked service is cancelled abd you're given advice about alternatives that advice has to count for something.

Yes, the 1540 was cancelled at Victoria at about 1630-ish. Ticket acceptance was in place on the Tube between Southeastern's London Terminals and on the high speed.

My ticket combo was valid for my intended journey.

In the end, Southeastern have just told me to ring them as I'm guessing they're doing the delay repay manually.
