Sorry putting trains on lorries is farcical

It seems a reasonable solution in the circumstances - it'd be a long way to try to path a 75mph DMU (from Newcastle to Eastleigh), and then if anything goes even slightly wrong you may be stuck trying to find a subsequent path (e.g. you've got to negotiate hundreds of miles of fast ECML whilst limited to Sprinter speeds, you've got to squeeze round London) - stick it on the back of a lorry - it's not like it's going to be a daily or even weekly occurrence - take the hit on this one and move on. Heavy rail isn't always the solution to every one of life's problems.

You need to find a driver that signs 156s plus the whole route down to Eastleigh
Im sure Rail Operations Group would have moved it. So what if its more expensive its what image it present to those road users the industry is seeking to convert to future customers

Apologies if this was already answered recently, but how many individual vehicles are Northern due to receive in 2020 that aren't new-build?

Does the same apply to the 158s, thinking SWR from London Waterloo. Would they also be cleared to run to the Merseyrail Waterloo from Southport?

To be fair to Northern and the uproar at sending the unit on the back of a lorry clearly the will was there to send it by rail, but in the end it did not happen for what ever reason. Hell of a route it was taking! Not often these days to see a 156 passing Tyseley or Brum generally.

I thought the moves to works were carried out by the Freight operating companies under contract to the ROSCO? So not a Northern issue, rather like the moves to the scrapyards for the withdrawn pacers.
