The orange livery isn't official, it's the livery of a sister company, so it's all conjecture at this point.

But I would be amazed if whatever rolls out isn't dissimilar.
You mean owning company... And 66413 is already in company colours.

You may notice that post was made at the start of may, before 413 had been rolled out. Would also argue if I were feeling really pedantic that the livery is that of rotterdam rail feeding, not G&W. Whilst very similar from the side, there are differences, such as the yellow front and the logo :p

Freightliner had numerous liveries with the grey, then old Green, powehaul green, green G+W branding and now very slowly (costs and stand down time) the G+W company colours. Would be nice to see one in the darker shade of orange. I like the Green but the orange stands out and is the parent companies colours. DB went the same after EWS, it is just what happens, always has (pre-grouping locos had to go into the grouping colours, the big 3 had to follow BR colours and only the Western didn't fully!) Transrail/loadhaul/mainline/Res went to EWS, etc. These things happen.

The original Grey with Red stripe was a good colour scheme.

Where HSTs Still Scream. Kind of.
Depends what you're referencing.

The original Green Freightliner branding was clean, simple and easy to apply across multiple classes. It was a functional livery with a clear brand identity.

The "Powerhaul" livery was clearly designed with the 70s in mind and to me looks awful on pretty much every other class in the fleet, especially the 86s where it looks like something 10 year old me would have made in Trainz Paintshed.

The new livery is garish, but at least lacks the daft waves and breaks that made the Powerhaul livery look so clunky and bespoke.

With that in mind, I voted for the new orange livery, but in reality the hierarchy goes -

Original Green > New Orange > Powerhaul Green / Silver

- to me.

New one is awful but I wasn’t a massive fan of the old either. It wasn’t really British Racing Green as claimed.

Real talk though - does anyone here have any genuine fondness for the Powerhaul livery? I really do think it's awful.

I don't really like it but I think it's less bad than this new one.

like others the original two tone grey with the red logo was my favourite. The first green livery is ok-ish but the second one was odd cos of the rubbish font for the logo.

Can't find any pictures of it as yet but it seems that 90044 has been painted into G&W orange at Crewe, should be interesting to see what it looks like when it breaks cover ....

Is powerhaul the second green livery, with silver bit in it? If so it is awful. Especially on the 86s. Original green/yellow, and the two tone grey with red triangles were the best

Yeah that's the one. I've always thought that Powerhaul livery looks very poorly designed when applied to existing loco classes 66, 86 and 90.

The red triangles was indeed a professional and satisfyingly understated adaptation of the then still fairly new trainload freight base livery, and the original green and yellow looked incredibly bold and striking when I first saw it on brand new 66s.

Some photos of 90044 have now appeared on the Freightliner Group Facebook page. It doesn't actually look as incongruous as I expected. Link hopefully included below for those with Facebook, and photos attached for those who don't:

Think the orange livery looks very smart. Looks much brighter and fresher than the Green and yellow.

I don't count it, since the livery is basically Railfreight Grey with a logo slapped on it. :p

the font used on powerhaul is ugly and awful as are the lines

That looks extremely 20th-century, which I suppose suits Class 90s very well.
Can't recall seeing the yellow ends wrapped round to the front column of the cab side windows like that since the original Railfreight Distribution livery, and even that had a bit more black around the windscreen panes.

The loco would probably benefit aesthetically from fully black windscreen surrounds, though in general linear liveries like this suit angular designs like the 90 fairly well.

I like G&W orange and black very much - it's reminiscent of US railroad liveries from the late sixties and early seventies. Which is why it will probably always look best applied to SD45s and similar:

I don't see the point of painting a loco bright orange when its going to turn black and dirty in no time...
That doesn't tend to be the case with freight locos these days, whereas once painting your freight locos black, and latterly grey, was the preferred method of detracting from a lack of cleaning.

GBRf are a case in point, whose locos even on heavy coal work appear generally pristine, and I've noted that even DB red locos remain bright red in the long run these days.

And hence why it doesn't sit well on locos of traditional UK design; double cab designs with largely uncluttered slab sides.
