Because the contract says they can’t be changed without the department’s say so.

The change of material was due to durability, not aesthetics.

As part of the EC franchise competition the DfT invited bidders to make tweaks to the 800/801 spec, hence why we see buffets, bright interiors and so on. It’s also why LNER’s brand theme so closely matches VTECs - because VTEC made those changes to the contract.

The interior fit out of the GW IETs isn’t changing without a change to the contract. And the contract isn’t up for further renegotiations at this time. There’s many small tweaks the powers that be at GWR would like to do if they could.

800001 is in use today. As would be expected, it has green vinyls over white base and has nose end logos, etc. It does not have a unit number on the south east corner (as running today, obviously it can turn around at some point) but does on the south west corner. I did not see the north side. It was noticeably shinier than other 800s around it!

Just caught 158747, would anyone be able to tell me what 3 car unit it was reformed from and when it was reformed if at all possible? Thanks

I assumed it was because the green is almost identical to the green grab handles, thus falling foul of the regulation that grab handles must contrast with the immediately adjacent surfaces.
You're absolutely right. The green handles were agreed long before the change from DfT grey cloth covers to moquette was authorised and the handles already in place by the time the seat covers started to be changed.
As you say, there would have been insufficient contrast if the green headrest had been included.

52747 was coach C in 158955 with 52765 and 57765
57747 was coach C in 158954 with 52760 and 57760
It was reformed sometime in the last ten days as 158955 was still running as a 3-car unit on 29 October.

Excuse the off topic but judging by your username this seems like the question you were to put on this forum to answer!

Thanks, that explains the repositioned GWR nose logo at one end which must be 52747. Like I13 said, looks like it was the perfect question for you!

On another note, I thought I read somewhere that 158950-955 were being kept as hybrids whilst 956 through 961 were the ones being reformed, has this been changed or was the source incorrect?

This thread is about livery and the 158 formation conversions has it's own thread although not quite everything you are looking for may not have been updated.

Is there any idea if and when 150219/238 will get the GWR livery instead of their current FGW livery...?

Thanks.

Most of the interiors of the Turbos though are literally tired and seat covers have been known to come off some of them!

Negotiations for an interior refurbishment I understand make up part of the work towards the next direct award. Other than necessary repair that’s the only love the interiors are getting until then.

Think i read somewhere these 2 plus 202 207 and 216 are all not long term franchise assets, though I wouldn't be surprised of that changes

I’m waiting for them to deck one of their units out in Chocolate on Cream, save for one of the end coaches, for an authentic GWR/Western Region experience!

Which particular bits on the driving cars would you finish in brass and copper though for the truly authentic appearance?

Why

They just putting the worlds smallest BR on that unit or are they all getting it?
I was thinking that it was more likely that an enthusiast stuck it on the side for a chuckle?

More likely someone from the Bring Back British Rail campaign. I don't want to sound pedantic or childish but as far as i'm concerned it's vandalism.

Which way round is the logo? I think Bring Back British Rail use the reversed (Sealink?) version?

Not so much a livery alteration, but it's welcome modification none the less - The first of the modified Mk3s (GW07) has appeared in traffic this week with side mounted LED Destination Screens. Similar to the Desiro set up in that they are run along the length of the window.
