Hello everyone. Was hoping for a bit of advice regarding this journey.

I'll be departing on Friday evening, coming back Sunday. I'd like to go direct via Thameslink on the outbound leg.

However, I'd like to start my start my return journey from Central London on Sunday, not Croydon.

Am I right in thinking that I can start the journey from an intermediate station with an off-peak return as long as it's on the same route?

Also, if I had an 'Any Operator' ticket, could I start this return journey from Kings Cross on LNER? Or does this count as a different station to the St. Pancras low level Thameslink platforms for ticketing purposes?

I'll be travelling all over the TFL network over the weekend using contactless so if anyone has suggestion for making all my travel more cost efficient that I hadn't considered, that would be handy too. I have a 16-25 railcard.

Thank you :)

I would check the TFL fare finder and NRE for the trips you may want to take in London as your contactless charge will not take account of your railcard of course.

If you plan a lot of journeys then you may benefit from the daily cap for a Travelcard.

From your OP I assume you will not be in London until after 1900, but the difference can be significant in the peak periods.

I have a 16-25 railcard.

If you get an Oyster Card you can have your railcard discount added to that.

If you're travelling this weekend then coming back on Sunday means Thameslink to Bedford and a rail replacement bus from there back to Peterborough due to the engineering works at KGX.

If you don't mind changing at KX to StP on the way down, then maybe worth looking at advance fares from Peterborough to E Croydon via LNER (there are some tomorrow for 16.65 still) - though you don't get to travel round London on that ticket if you are going to do so on a Fri evening.

Maybe look into whether an outboundary travelcard from Peterborough to Z1-6 would be best for the Sunday - I think you can use the Z1-6 bit first and return to Peterborough (but then not back to London!). This will allow you to use the 16-25 discount for £28.05.

As said above - Oyster + 16-25 to reduce the cap amount for the Saturday.

Thank you all for your help. So many options!

Not travelling this weekend this thankfully so no issues with engineering works.

Does the following sound sensible?

Friday: Peterborough to East Croydon advanced single £11.95
Saturday: Apply for an Oyster and get the 16-25 discount applied to benefit from the lower cap.
Sunday: 16-25 oyster for travelling around . Advanced single from Kings X to Peterborough for £9.90 to get home.

Sounds good to me and there is a Tramlink shop just down George Street from East Croydon station that should be able to do all the Oyster stuff, although this may be closed on Saturdays. Otherwise the only place you will be able to get your Railcard added to an Oyster is a Underground or Overground Station so you may need to walk to West Croydon.

Actually East Croydon can do Oyster stuff unless they've stopped. They had the equipment at one window, far right as you look at the windows.

East Croydon has Oyster facilites so @bboiler should be able to get their railcard added there I think. I've certainly had Annual zonal LU travelcards + gold card added to Oyster there.

Posted at the same time as me! From memory it's now the three left hand windows which have the facility. There's certainly a big Oyster sign above the ones which do.

I guess it must fit in this category on the Oyster site.
"Some DLR and National Rail stations"
Can not say I noticed the EC windows the other month when I walked down to the Tramlink shop to stick £30 on my card. Maybe I am finally turning into country folk after 5 years not living in London
