There's 5 of us wanting to go to Cerbere on the sleeper train from Paris in April.

In the past when booking I remember a box one could tick to get "espace prive" - the use of the whole 6 couchette compartment with just 5 of us. The extra cost was about the same as an additional ticket. I can't now find a booking site where that shows - does anyone know of one please?

'How to book Espace Privatif online: Go to www.trainline.eu and run an enquiry, select a first class fare for the overnight train you want. Then select Private compartment, assuming if that option shows up. If that option doesn't appear, then Espace Privatif is unavailable on that date & train - although you can always just book all the berths in a compartment, of course. You print your own ticket or collect it at the station.

The Espace Privatif arrangement can also be booked online at French Railways' own site en.oui.sncf, although it's much easier at to use www.trainline.eu. However, it cannot be booked online at Raileurope.com or Raileurope-world.com or Raileurope.co.uk. It can also be booked by phone direct with SNCF in France on 00 33 970 60 99 70, lines also open evenings and weekends.'

Thanks for your input.

Point noted re oui.sncf but I was hoping to do it on Trainline as it has all my history and profiles set up but somehow I was using www.thetrainline.com which doesn't allow more than 5 tickets (so can't order the phantom 6th ticket). So following the link shown above took me to the familiar site which is www.trainline.eu where one can book for more than 5 tickets. Both sites have my list of fellow travellers on it but they operate differently. I don't understand why.

Thanks again.

If there's five of you a first class couchette is no good as it'll only have four berths. You want a second class six berther with an espace privatif

Yes, good point - that's why I booked standard class for 6 people despite only 5 of us going.

And do note: real WL=wagon lits, translated as sleeper do NOT exist in FR since quite some years now. Its the CC=couchette (lie down berth, aka as rolling youth hostel). Railwaypersons should know the difference.
