Whichever makes you feel more comfortable. Its not an interview and they dont take photos. But dress smartly regardless imo.

I'm police and the only thing they don't like is unshaved look. Ie few days.
Don't worry about anything else as long as you are presentable.

Either way is not a problem. Beards appear to be a fashionable look at present.

As another forum member has stated - the five O'clock shadow is generally a no-no (looking like Don Johnson from his Miami Vice days) but anything else isn't an issue.

Like with any job where looking presentable is important (other than the likes of the military) I'd imagine with or without is absolutely fine, the key is that you look presentable rather than unkempt. So like you intended to have a beard and have kept it tidy, trimmed etc, not because you couldn't be bothered having a shave for a couple of days.

I know a bloke who was clean-shaven for an interview I also know a bloke who had stubble for his interview they both got jobs as trainee train drivers.

If I were you I would shave, but.

Firstly, are you male or female? :) :E

At an assessment you should be as presentable as you will be at an interview as a rule of thumb.

I really don’t think it matters, as long as you scrub up well and make the effort. The unshaven look will be largely offset by the fact that you’re wearing a suit and shiny shoes. I tend to always go for the unkempt look these days and it’s never done me any harm. If you looked a mess, with dirty finger nails, greasy long hair and dirty clothes, it might be another matter.

It does seem (and I say this as someone who often works in offices) that you can either, in an office, go for fully formal[1] i.e. shirt, trousers, formal shoes and jacket, or you can go for the "slightly unkempt outdoorsy" look i.e. still with shirt, trousers and shoes but not bothering with the jacket and instead wearing mountaineering type kit on arrival e.g. down jacket or fleece. However, I suspect if you did part of that (just the unkempt bit) you'd just be seen as scruffy. And I wouldn't do that for an interview, as it's an unnecessary risk.

[1] For an interview in any line of business always a jacket and tie, even though in offices people often don't wear ties any more. Nobody looks down at you for overdressing even if the first thing they say is that you needn't have done, but plenty will for underdressing.

I agree about full business attire for interviews etc 100%. I’d even attend assessments in the same, or at very least shirt/trousers and tie.

I would agree - an assessment day is just another type of interview, unless you're told otherwise (e.g. if it's a more practical assessment day).
