I've got a few applications in for driving roles and it's suddenly just occurred to me that as a sufferer of hypertension is this an issue?

It's fully controlled with medication but just thought I'd ask the question now as I'd hate to nearly land a job only to find out some TOC's don't allow it???

I suffered with hypertension at my medical too, and got referred to my GP.
Once I had the all clear though with some normal readings taken at home and with my GP, I was on the course! :)

I attended a medicals for pts last Friday and I failed due to hearing. I went again on Monday and i failed again. I was confused and disappointed. I was told to go see my gp and my gp said my ears looks fine. Might have a problem I don't know off so am being referred to see a specialist. Was told I have problems hearing the very low sounds. Any one had the same problem? Need advise on what steps to take

As with most things, it’s all about controlling it, which you have :)

Just wondering how intense is the eye test? Do they just get you to cover up each eye and read a board or do they have the proper glasses where they block ons eye off at a time

The test varies slightly between TOC/FOC, but the two I’ve worked for have used a desk based machine which replicated the snellen scale (the wall chart) and the blank one eye hole out etc to test each eye, then have both open. They also test with correction and without.

They also give you a passage to read at a distance of about 30cm without corrective lenses and test for peripheral vision too.

Ok thanks. Just I know my left eye is pretty shocking and just did medical for LGV/HGV licence and tbh medical was pretty easy and told to stand and cover one eye and read board then swap covering eyes but still same board up so could easily remember 4th line down Altho couldn’t see it clearly. Just worried if a Miri always happened to get all the way to end then my body lets me down :/

My eyes are poor, so much so I was worried about the medical. Even corrected vision, although feels okay to me, isn’t perfect. My prescription is quite strong too, which they take in to account.

But I seen that uncorrected must be 3/60 I think I read some where. I’m not totally sure my left eye will get this as opticians said they had my left eye as “count fingers” which is less than 3/60. And didn’t want laser eye treatment however not sure I would be allowed it and still get through medical. I’m trying to think of ways to maybe improve my left eye slightly as with both eyes I see perfect no vision affected at all untill I close my right eye.

I’m not sure on the exact standards, but have attached the RSSB document which lists everything (although it may be measured differently).

Was your hearing test done in a room with noisy environmental noise? If so, then you won't hear the low sounds. Did you obtain a copy of your hearing test?
